Watching Worst Ex Ever and realizing how many toxic dynamics begin with rationalization.

“It wasn’t that bad.”
“They’ve just been through a lot.”
“They said they’d change.”

Abuse and manipulation often escalate gradually.
And over time, people can become emotionally trapped long before they realize how unhealthy things have become.

This is why understanding matters:
• attachment patterns
• emotional manipulation
• inconsistency
• and coercive control

Red flags don’t always arrive loudly, sometimes they arrive disguised as chemistry, intensity, or “potential.”

Happy Therapy Humor Thursday!
Me logging onto a session to teach clients how to live a happier, more exciting, and fulfilling life...
..while reminding myself to drink water, go outside, answer my texts, maintain boundaries, and practice the same coping skills I recommended three sessions ago.

Therapists are human too, you know!
What's the most therapist thing you've ever done? 👀

Einstein Wednesday 🐾
[Einstein's territorial-ness over his treat is the epitome of boundary setting.]

POV: You finally set a boundary and the person who benefited from you having none is suddenly upset.

Funny how that works. Boundaries aren't about controlling other people, they're actually about communicating what you're willing and unwilling to tolerate from others.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can say is: "No." And no, you don't owe a 17-slide PowerPoint presentation explaining why.

Einstein takes his snacks very seriously.
Maybe we should take our boundaries just as seriously. 👀

One of the hardest truths about relationships is that we don't always accept the love we deserve but rather we often accept the love that feels familiar.

Sometimes settling doesn't feel like settling.
It may actually feel like:
• loyalty
• patience
• understanding
• hope

The thing is, there's a difference between supporting someone and abandoning yourself.

Healthy relationships aren't perfect, but they should feel safe, respectful, reciprocal, and emotionally secure.

Which slide hit the hardest? 👀

POV: You're looking for a therapist... and realize they're human, too.

Behind every therapist is a human being.

A person with dreams, goals, hobbies, favorite books, travel stories, coffee orders, life experiences, and lessons they've learned along the way.

While my role is to support others, guide growth, and help people navigate life's challenges, I'm also someone who deeply values family, relationships, faith, learning, adventure, laughter, and meaningful connection.

One of the most important predictors of successful therapy isn't the modality, it's the therapeutic relationship that is built.

The right therapist isn't necessarily the most qualified person on paper, it's the person you feel comfortable enough to be yourself with.

So here's a little glimpse of the human behind the license...

Happy Father's Day!

Today, we celebrate the fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, foster fathers, adoptive fathers, father figures, mentors, and the men who chose to show up when it mattered most.

We honor the dads who worked long hours, made sacrifices, offered guidance, provided comfort, and helped shape the lives of those they love.

To all who have embraced the role of father, in whatever form that may be, we honor you today.

We also hold space for those for whom today is complicated:
• those grieving a father
• those missing a father
• those estranged from a father
• those longing to become fathers
• and those carrying difficult experiences related to fatherhood

The quality of our relationships often begins with the examples we were given. Today, we celebrate the fathers and father figures who helped build strong foundations.

Watching Maternal Instinct left me thinking less about the crime itself and more about the relationship dynamics that unfolded before it.

Throughout the documentary, multiple people reportedly expressed concerns, noticed inconsistencies, questioned stories, and observed behaviors that felt alarming.

Yet the relationship continued.

As a therapist, one of the most difficult realities to accept is that love, hope, and attachment can sometimes make it harder to recognize patterns that seem obvious to others.

The documentary also raises important conversations about:

• chronic deception
• manipulation
• identity fabrication
• lack of accountability
• empathy deficits
• ignoring repeated warning signs

To be clear, documentaries do not provide enough information to diagnose someone. However, they can help us understand why certain behaviors feel so unsettling and why trusted family and friends often notice concerning patterns before the person inside the relationship does.

One of the most dangerous phrases I hear in therapy?
"I thought everyone else was overreacting."

One of the biggest lessons:
Pay attention when multiple people who care about you are expressing the same concern. They may be seeing a pattern that attachment is making difficult for you to recognize.

What was your biggest takeaway from Maternal Instinct?

Healing sometimes looks like: leaving -> going back -> learning -> and leaving again.
Growth is rarely linear.

If you’ve ever watched Tell Me Lies and thought “why is she still with him???” Welcome to the psychology of trauma bonds, intermittent reinforcement, and anxious-avoidant attachment. Toxic relationships often feel intense, passionate, and addictive because the brain becomes wired to chase relief after emotional chaos.
Healthy love feels different; it feels calm, predictable, and safe. Sometimes… boring to a nervous system that’s used to chaos.

These are self-explanatory relational tips that still need to be explained. Just tell your partner how you feel. Treat one another with respect. Be honest. Such simple things that seem easier said than done, right?
