It would be great if Kansas reversed course and decided to move forward with Money Follows the Person again.

The Money Follows the Person program was set to restart this summer, offering more ways for people to live independently. But Kansas pulled back out of fear that the federal funding was disappearing. Now, social service agencies wonder what will happen to those people.

Therapy outside?? ☀️

According to a 2023 study on nature-based rehabilitation for individuals with acquired brain injury, interacting with nature as part of neurorehabilitation enhanced activity and increased self-efficacy, autonomy, community spirit, cooperation, joy, and a sense of peace.

One of the best parts of home and community-based rehabilitation is that therapy can happen anywhere. And sometimes... that means stepping outside for some fresh air, sunshine, and a change of scenery. 🙂

June is Aphasia Awareness Month 🗣️💜 Aphasia is a language disorder caused by brain injury, most commonly after a stroke. It can affect talking, reading, writing, and understanding.

Aphasia is NOT a loss of intelligence. There are many different types of aphasia, but the most common is expressive aphasia (also known as Broca’s aphasia). In this type, individuals know what they want to say but have difficulty getting the words out, or it requires significant effort to produce them.

As you can imagine, this experience can be highly frustrating and isolating.

That’s why this month is so important for spreading awareness, reducing stigma, and helping people better understand how to support those living with aphasia.

Recently, we had the opportunity to host physical therapy students from Concorde Career College. During their visit, they met with a few of our therapists and a consumer, and heard firsthand about the real-life journeys of relearning skills, rebuilding confidence, and reconnecting with their communities following brain injury.

Our therapists shared insights into the recovery process, the importance of person-centered care, and the life-changing role community rehabilitation can play.

Thank you for visiting with us! We had a great time connecting with everyone, and we’re excited to see the future of PT in such great hands🙂
