Why & How Young Adults Can & Should Pre‑Arrange Their Funeral
Young adults can preplan their funerals to ensure their wishes are honored, ease the burden on loved ones, and avoid unexpected financial stress — and it’s best to start early, even if you feel invincible. You can make monthly payments until paid in full. You have locked in pricing.

Life is unpredictable — accidents and illnesses can happen at any age. Reduces stress for family — your loved ones won’t have to guess about burial vs. cremation, service type, or personal touches

Ensures your voice is heard — your arrangements can reflect your personality, values, and cultural traditions. Financial preparation.

Key Steps for Young Adult Preplanning
~Decide on disposition — burial, cremation, or another option.
~Choose service type — funeral, memorial, celebration of life, graveside, or scattering ceremony.
~Document your wishes — write down preferences for service, music, readings, cultural traditions, and personal touches.
~Consider financial options — prepay or set up monthly payments.
~Share your plan — give copies to trusted family members or a designated person.
~Review and update — revisit your plan every few years or after major life changes.

Practical Tips for Young Adults
~Start earlier than you think — there’s no “right” age; planning in your 20s or 30s is fine.
~Keep it flexible — you can change your mind later; document both current wishes and the process for updates.
~Involve trusted people — friends, family, or a chaplain can help you think through options.
~Store documents securely — in a safe place or with a trusted person, and share access with family.

Experiencing Grief:
We all discover, life does not magically return to normal after the funeral service is over and friends and family go back to their own lives. As the shock and numbness of the loss of your loved one subsides, other feelings of grief may be just beginning. These new emotions are normal responses to the death of your loved one, and it is important to allow yourself to feel these emotions so that you can continue to move through the grieving process.
When you think back to the death of your loved one, and the days immediately after, that time may seem like a blur. You may be fuzzy about some details, as if you were numb, and unable to fully experience or realize what you are going through. Your memory is not faulty; this is just how your brain protects itself from shock. You aren't going crazy; you are healing.

Please never feel like you are alone. There are so many people going through or have gone through some of the same things. Reach out to someone that is close to you and talk. It is okay to grieve. Everyone grieves differently and never let anyone tell you any different.
