🍎🌱 Growing, Learning & Giving Back at URI East Farm! 🌱🍎

The Children’s Wellness Learning Collaborative was excited to return to URI’s East Farm for another wonderful hands-on learning experience!

Our community had the opportunity to spend time with Master Gardeners Pam and Mary, learning more about the farm and discovering the importance of growing and giving back to our community. 🌿 We explored the farm and learned about composting, sustainable gardening practices, soil testing, and the importance of caring for our environment. 🌿🌎

🍎 The highlight of our visit was picking 36 pounds of apples to donate to the Jonnycake Center! 🍎

What started as a fun day of learning turned into a meaningful community service project, giving our students the opportunity to experience firsthand how their efforts can make a difference in the lives of others.

Some of the most valuable lessons happen beyond the classroom. Experiences like these help our students develop compassion, responsibility, teamwork, and a deeper connection to their community. ❤️

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Master Gardeners Pam and Mary and everyone at URI East Farm for welcoming us back, sharing your knowledge, and helping us plant more seeds of curiosity, kindness, and community spirit!

📅 October 12, 2026 — The Moon Meets Venus and Mercury

🌌 Look toward the western sky after sunset!

A beautiful celestial gathering is expected this evening as the slim crescent Moon appears near bright Venus and Mercury. These three celestial objects will create a lovely scene above the western horizon.

✨ Venus will stand out with its brilliant glow, while Mercury may be harder to find because it will appear low in the fading twilight. The delicate crescent Moon will complete this eye-catching view, making it a special moment for skywatchers and astrophotography lovers.

🔭 How to Watch:

- Find a spot with a clear view of the western horizon.
- Start looking shortly after sunset.
- Try to spot all three objects before they sink below the horizon.
- Binoculars may help you find Mercury, but use them only after the Sun has completely set and never point them toward the Sun.

🌠 Take a Moment to Enjoy the Night Sky! Step outside, look toward the west, and discover the beauty of our celestial neighborhood. Don’t forget your camera if you want to capture this lovely evening scene! 📸🌙

🌱 Planting the Seeds for a New Year at CWLC 🌱

The beginning of a new year at The Children’s Wellness Learning Collaborative is all about reconnecting, building community, and finding our rhythm together.

We started by sharing our summer adventures, giving everyone a chance to tell their stories, listen to one another, and learn more about the experiences and interests each learner brings to our community.

These first weeks are also about developing our daily rhythms—learning how we gather, work together, transition through our day, make space for choice and creativity, and balance learning with connection and fun.

We’ve been spending time getting to know one another, revisiting our shared agreements, exploring our individual strengths and interests, and beginning to think about the projects and ideas we want to grow this year.

Just like a garden, a strong learning community takes time. We are planting the seeds for curiosity, kindness, confidence, and growth—and creating a place where every learner has something meaningful to contribute. 🌻

🌱 Tomorrow is the First Day of The CWLC 2026–2027 program year, in our new location in ☮️ Peace Dale, RI ! 🌱

We are so excited to welcome our new and returning community members to The Children’s Wellness Learning Collaborative! ☀️

Our theme this year is Planting Seeds for Curiosity, Kindness & Growth 🌿 — and we’ll be bringing our theme to life in so many ways throughout the year.

We’ll be digging into hands-on projects, exploring estuaries and our natural environment, gardening at East Farm, writing our own books, collaborating with The Met School and URI’s Innovation Lab, growing our Kindness in Bloom micro business, hosting another business fair, and giving learners opportunities to Share Their Strengths by teaching and inspiring one another.

Along the way, we’ll plant plenty of other seeds too — new friendships, new interests, new ideas, confidence, creativity, and kindness. 🌻

This year, we’ll continue building a community where curiosity is encouraged, kindness matters, and every learner has something special to contribute.

Tomorrow we begin planting those first seeds, and we can’t wait to see what grows! ☀️

VOICES FOR THE WILD | WildFest 2026

WildFest is about more than celebrating wildlife- it’s about creating a space for our community to connect with some of the people and organizations working to protect animals, habitats, and the natural world around us.

For our inaugural WildFest, we’re excited to welcome an incredible group of organizations as our first Voices for the Wild!

Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with these organizations, learn more about the work they’re doing, and discover ways we can all make a difference for wildlife, animals, and the places we share.

Because we all have a role to play in protecting what is wild.
