We just had the honor of presenting on the Power of Play at Astra’s Marketplace and Academy and we couldn’t be more excited to share what we talked about with YOU.
Play is more than just fun. It’s connection, it’s a child’s language and it’s one of the most powerful tools we have as parents and caregivers to help our children feel seen, heard, and understood.
In a world where anxiety and depression in kids and teens are on the rise, slowing down to connect through play matters more than ever.
Because when a child feels seen and heard by someone they are deeply connected to they feel better, learn better, and develop to their fullest potential. 💛
Everyday moments cooking together, a 15-second dance party, a puzzle, folding laundry side by side ALL of it counts. The possibilities are truly endless.
So today, we challenge you: look for the playful moments. Notice what shifts when you show up and say “I’m here. I hear you. I care.”
Play is a child’s language, toys are their words, and connection between a child and someone who loves them deeply is more powerful than people realize.

At Love Play Grow, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits approach.

We believe in starting where you are—and building from there.

Our approach is simple. And it works.

🧸 Look for Strengths
We start by recognizing what’s already working. The talents, the coping mechanisms, the moments of connection you’re already creating. We see them. And we build from there.

🧸 Identify Weaknesses
We create a safe, judgment-free space to name the hard stuff. The struggles. The vulnerabilities. The patterns that aren’t working. No shame. Just honesty and support.

🧸 Build Skills Where It’s Helpful
Together, we develop tools that fit your family—coping strategies, communication skills, emotional regulation—rooted in your unique strengths and challenges.

This isn’t about fixing what’s “broken.”
It’s about growing what’s already there.

Where love and play nurture growth—together, through every stage of life.

If I wanted to build a tighter bond with my kid this summer this is where you’d find me! Playing catch in the backyard. We see it all the time in our work as play therapists, kids tend to open up more when they are side by side with you or when engaged in something. Playing catch is exactly that kind of moment. You’re not asking them anything, so they finally have room to tell you something. So this summer, do less! Play some catch after dinner and be the steady thing they come back to again and again.

Connection is everything :)

What is one simple rhythm your family could build this summer? Tell us below 👇

“Sometimes people forget that play is learning and learning is play.” — Peter Dixon

We couldn’t agree more.

Play isn’t a break from learning. It is the learning.

When a child builds with blocks, they’re problem-solving.
When they engage in pretend play, they’re building language and social skills.
When they run, jump, or dance, they’re regulating their nervous system.

Play is how children explore, experiment, and make sense of their world.

And here’s what we know: when parents understand this, everything shifts. The pressure to “teach” lifts. The guilt over playtime fades. And connection deepens.

There’s something really powerful about toys that don’t tell kids exactly how they’re supposed to play. 💛

That’s why I love Marmals.

Kids can build them, redesign them, mix and match pieces, create personalities, and turn them into entire little worlds and stories. As a play therapist, that kind of open-ended play always catches my attention.

Because when a toy leaves room for imagination, kids naturally bring more of themselves into the play.

That’s where creativity, confidence, storytelling, and real connection start to grow.

The best toys usually aren’t the ones doing the most. They’re the ones that let kids do the creating. ✨

Low prep. High connection. Toys are tools. 💛

If your kid loves I Spy… this is basically that but way more satisfying 💦
You wet the page and the colors come to life — then they have to hunt for what’s hidden in the picture. My kids are locked in every single time.
Here’s what’s actually happening while they’re deep in the search 👇
🧠 Genuinely concentrating — not just sitting still, actually thinking
👀 Scanning for details and training their eyes to slow down
💪 Sitting with the “I can’t find it” frustration — and not giving up
✋ Building fine motor control with every swipe of the brush
As a play therapist, parents are always asking me for easy ways to make dining out feel less chaotic.
This is one of my favorite things to throw in a bag. It’s low prep, mess free, and it actually holds their attention and works their brain at the same time.
Total win at the dinner table. 💛 Follow and Comment SEEK
