This episode discusses the work done at HUP by an interdisciplinary team; Emmanual King, MD, Christina Vo, CRNP, Karen Brooks, Nurse Manager of Silverstein 12, Natalie Plastino, Patient Safety Manager, and Scott Crespy, Master Improvement Advisor, collaborate on proactive prevention strategies and team-based interventions to create safer environments for patients, families, and healthcare workers.

Solving the global nursing shortage isn't just about recruiting new nurses—it’s about transforming the environments where they care for patients every single day.
On September 18, Penn Nursing’s Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research (CHOPR), Penn Medicine, Penn LDI, and TruMerit came together to host a global symposium on nursing workforce solutions and patient safety.
Healthcare leaders—including UPHS CEO Kevin Mahoney, International Council of Nurses (ICN) leaders Howard Catton and David Stewart, and Penn Nursing's own Antonia Villarruel, PhD, Linda Aiken, PhD, Matt McHugh, PhD, and Selena Gilles, DNP—shared crucial insights on addressing nurse burnout through better workplace support.
The event also highlighted results from Magnet4Europe, an innovative project that paired 65 European hospitals with U.S. Magnet facilities to redesign care environments and raise quality standards worldwide.
