Denmark is reconsidering the “cry it out” method due to concerns about emotional and neurological development

Over 700 psychologists raised alarms that letting infants cry for extended periods may interfere with healthy attachment and stress regulation. Prolonged distress can impact the developing nervous system, affecting emotional resilience and social bonds.

While Denmark moves to discourage this method, parts of the U.S. still widely practice it. Experts emphasize alternative approaches like responsive soothing and gradual sleep training, which support secure attachment and healthy brain development.

Parents are encouraged to adopt techniques that balance sleep training with emotional support, fostering both rest and long term psychological wellbeing in children.
