Autism and communication: not every response comes in spoken words. 💚

Sometimes, we ask a question and expect an answer straight away. We might look for spoken words, eye contact, or a quick response without realising that communication doesn't look the same for everyone.

For some autistic people, communication might happen through an AAC device, gestures, writing, sign language, eye gaze, or other methods. Others may need more time to respond, or may not be able to communicate in the way a particular situation expects.

We can't tell how much someone understands or what they're feeling simply by whether they respond aloud.

So, what can we do differently?

Give people time. Pay attention to how they communicate. Accept their chosen communication methods without asking them to prove themselves in a way that works for us.

At Squirrel Space, we believe belonging means making room for different ways of communicating. Everyone deserves to be listened to, respected, and included without having to communicate in one particular way.

Communication doesn't have to be spoken to deserve our attention. 🐿️💚

Not every disability is visible. 💚

A colleague may be navigating a chronic illness, ADHD, autism, a mental health condition, or sensory needs without sharing their experience with everyone around them.

They shouldn't have to explain their whole story to feel supported.

Disability inclusion starts with small things: clear communication, flexibility, listening without judgment, and making room for different ways of working.

At Squirrel Space, we believe belonging means being able to contribute without having to hide your needs.

You don't have to know someone's whole story to help make work more accessible. 🐿️💚

What's one small change that could make your workplace more inclusive?

ADHD is more than being easily distracted. 💚

For some people, it affects the everyday things others may not think twice about: getting started, keeping track of time, organizing tasks, managing emotions, or having enough energy left at the end of the day.

Some people find joy in their creativity, curiosity, or deep interests. They may also experience real challenges that affect their work, relationships, routines, or wellbeing.

Those experiences can coexist.

Calling ADHD a superpower may feel affirming to some people, while others may feel that it overlooks how difficult things can be. There's room for both perspectives, because no two people experience ADHD in exactly the same way.

At Squirrel Space, we want to make space for honest conversations about what neurodivergent people experience and what helps them navigate everyday life.

Understanding ADHD isn't about deciding whether it's a gift or a struggle. It's about listening to the person living it and recognizing that strengths and support needs can exist together.

What's one thing you wish more people understood about living with ADHD?

Tom Hardy and autism: a reminder that autism doesn't have one look.

During a conversation about his creative process, Tom Hardy casually shared that he's on the autism spectrum.

It's a small moment, but one that can open up a bigger conversation about neurodiversity and representation.

We don't always know what someone experiences by looking at them. Autistic people have different interests, personalities, communication styles, support needs, and ways of moving through the world.

For some people, hearing a public figure talk openly about being autistic can make the idea feel a little more familiar. For others, representation means recognizing that their own experience may look very different from the stories they usually see.

Neither experience needs to be the same.

At Squirrel Space, we want to keep making room for those differences. We believe people deserve to be heard as individuals, without being expected to fit a particular image of what autism or neurodivergence should look like.

The more we listen to people's experiences, the more room we make for understanding. 🐿️💚

What do you wish more people understood about autism?

There’s something special about looking back on a moment when people get to shine, try something new, and experience what it feels like to be part of something bigger than themselves.

We’re celebrating the dancers of Jasmine's Beat® and the joy, dedication, and teamwork behind this special Disney experience. 💚

Moments like these remind us that inclusion is about more than opening a door. It’s about creating opportunities for people to participate, contribute, build confidence, and be celebrated for who they are.

And behind every opportunity is a community of people who believe in what’s possible, offer support, and make room for everyone to take part.

At Squirrel Space, we believe belonging grows when people don’t have to fit a particular mold to be included. Sometimes, it starts with a chance to try, a team that cheers you on, and a space where your contribution matters.

Congratulations to the dancers and everyone who helped make this experience possible. Thank you for reminding us what inclusive opportunities can look like when people are given the chance to shine. 🐿️💚🙌

Here’s to more moments where everyone gets to be part of the magic. ✨

Still time to show your support 💚: https://summer-bash-2026.lovable.app/

What happens when you bring a bunch of funny squirrels together online? 🐿️🎃 A whole lot of laughter, connection, and Halloween fun!

Thank you to everyone who joined our Halloween Squirrel Social with Kat Sweeney, MCLC, ACC from All Belong ADHD Coaching, Emily Kapszukiewicz from Squirrel Space, and our special guest Coach Lee Hopkins - Patterns of Possibility LLC! 💜🧡
Whether you showed up in costume, tried a fun filter, wore your favorite spooky accessory, or simply came as you were, we’re so glad you were part of it.
Because belonging isn’t about looking a certain way, being the loudest in the room, or knowing exactly what to say. It’s about having space to show up as yourself, connect in your own way, and feel welcome just as you are.
A little silliness, a few shared laughs, and people who get it can go a long way. 🐿️✨

Here’s to more spaces where everyone belongs, connection feels natural, and being yourself is always enough.
Thank you for being part of our squirrel community! We can’t wait to connect with you again. 💜

Your Halloween costume can be as simple as showing up. 🐿️🎃

Sometimes, joining in is easier when there’s no pressure to get everything just right, including your costume.

For our Halloween Squirrel Social, that means:

👓 Funny glasses? Absolutely.
🎃 A headband? Perfect.
👻 A Halloween filter? Go for it.
🐿️ No costume at all? You’re just as welcome.

Join Kat from All Belong Coaching and Emily from Squirrel Space for a relaxed virtual hangout to meet some new people, have a laugh, and spend time with a community where you can show up as yourself.

There’s no dress code. No need to be extra social. No pressure to perform.

You can join in your own way, at your own comfort level. That’s part of what makes a space feel welcoming.
