I didn't stop my GLP-1 before I had surgery scheduled and now I may need to reschedule it!

GLP-1s are used to treat diabetes and have been proven to be very effective in helping to manage blood sugar. These types of medications are also gaining popularity as a treatment option for obesity. However, if you have a procedure that requires anesthesia, you may need to go off your GLP-1 before your procedure takes place.

We are excited to celebrate the birth of the 100th baby delivered this year at Northern Light AR Gould Hospital. Oakley Joe was born on June 16, weighing 8 lbs. 7 oz. Congratulations to parents Brittany and Joseph Kerekes and big brothers Stryker and Dennis!

Nurses Jenny Plummer, Riley McNeal, and Bethany Shaw presented a special gift to the family on behalf of the team from the hospital's Women & Children's Unit in celebration of the milestone.

Baby Oakley was delivered by Lauren Walker, CNM.

As Certified Nursing Assistants Week draws to a close today, we want to take a moment to proudly recognize and thank our incredible CNA team!

These healthcare professionals are on the frontline, providing crucial hands-on care for patients every day. At AR Gould Hospital, we have a team of 36 dedicated CNAs that care for patients in our Acute Rehabilitation, Medical/Surgical, and Intensive Care Units.

Thank you to this entire team for the difference you make every single day!

AR Gould was happy to host our June Healthy Aging luncheon today. Instead of one featured speaker, this week we offered four mini-talks on different topics.

Our guests and topics were: Brady Smith, Deputy Chief of Police, speaking on Community & Fraud; Laura Turner, AR Gould Director of Outreach & Philanthropy, telling us about Giving Opportunities; Chaplain George McLaughlin, speaking about Grief Support Groups; and Rev. Nicholas Perez, talking about the Mission/Vision of Grant Memorial Methodist Church.

The AR Gould senior leader who visited with the group this month was Tammy Beaulier-Fuller, VP of Nursing and Patient Care Services.

Our thanks to our speakers, event coordinator Linda Menard, and Julie Plummer and Gloria Fletcher, who volunteered at the event. A very special thanks as well to all of the Healthy Aging members who joined us today!

The next Healthy Aging luncheon is planned for July 28.

We were excited to deliver 12 sunscreen stations to the Presque Isle Gouldville Early Care and Education Center this week! One sunscreen station will stay at that location, and the Community Action team will distribute the others to their childcare locations across Aroostook County, including Dyer Brook, Houlton, Easton, Presque Isle CTE partnership, Northern Maine Community College, Caribou Community School, Caribou Bowles, Limestone, Fort Kent, and Madawaska.

These sunscreen stations are made possible thanks to a generous grant to AR Gould Hospital from the Maine Cancer Foundation.

Delivering the sunscreen stations was Laura Turner (standing, left), the hospital’s Director of Community Outreach and Philanthropy, and accepting it on behalf of ACAP were several staff and children from the Gouldville center. It was such fun having the kiddos take part!

We’ll continue working on this project throughout the summer. Non-profit organizations who hold outside activities for kids or families can contact Laura Turner at [email protected] to learn more.

Please join us in welcoming Crystal Daigle, MD to Northern Light Pediatrics in Presque Isle!

Dr. Daigle earned her medical degree from the American University of Antigua College of Medicine and completed her Pediatric Residency at Jefferson Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia. She is board eligible with the American Board of Pediatrics.

A proud native of Aroostook County, Dr. Daigle is excited to return home to serve the community that helped shape her. After spending the past 20 years in Florida, she is looking forward to reconnecting with family, friends, and all that Maine has to offer—including winter activities!

Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Daigle worked as a dental hygienist. Driven by a lifelong dream of becoming a physician, she returned to school and earned her medical degree. She often says that pediatrics chose her, and she feels grateful to care for children and their families.

When exploring opportunities across Maine, Dr. Daigle found a special connection with the team at Northern Light Pediatrics in Presque Isle and knew it was the right fit.

Welcome, Dr. Daigle!
