Women shouldn’t have to bring a witness to be taken seriously. But research suggests that having someone else in the room can make a difference. 💛

If you have a medical appointment coming up, consider bringing a friend or family member. Have them take notes, help you remember questions, and be another set of ears when you’re explaining your symptoms.

You deserve to be heard the first time. Until that’s the reality for everyone, bring someone who can help advocate for you.

POTS Episode 13: Your medical records matter. 📋

If your doctor refuses a test, dismisses your symptoms, or declines to help, you can ask them to document that decision in your chart.

You have the right to access your medical records, request corrections to inaccurate information, and, if an amendment is denied, submit a statement of disagreement that becomes part of your record.

Your chart follows you. And when you’re navigating a condition like POTS, having an accurate medical history can make a difference in how future providers understand your care.

You deserve to be heard, and you have the right to advocate for yourself.

Save this for your next doctor’s appointment. 💙

POTS EP. 12 Leave the binder in the car. Bring the important questions and the data.

When you’re navigating POTS, it’s easy to feel like you have to explain every symptom, every setback, and every detail of your journey. But you don’t have to bring the whole weight of it into every appointment.

✨ Focus on your most important questions.
📊 Bring your symptom data, heart rate AND blood pressure readings.
🧠 Advocate for yourself with the information that matters most.

You deserve to be heard without having to prove how hard this is.

Could your Apple Watch help you uncover clues about POTS? ⌚️❤️

Tracking your heart rate throughout the day, especially when moving from lying down to standing, can help you identify patterns to discuss with your healthcare provider.

But don’t stop at heart rate! 👇

❤️ Track your heart rate.
🩺 Monitor your blood pressure.
📝 Log your symptoms and when they occur.

Your Apple Watch cannot diagnose POTS, but combining heart rate data with blood pressure readings and symptom tracking can provide valuable information to bring to your doctor.

Sometimes, the patterns are worth paying attention to. 👀

Let’s talk nutrition for a minute. 🍎

What you eat affects your health, whether you’ve sustained a traumatic brain injury or are in perfect health.

However, nutrition is ✨especially✨ important after a brain injury.

Your diet can be the difference between your brain getting “just enough to squeak by” vs. being powered up for healing. 💪🏻

What if the missing piece of your POTS diagnosis is something you can track yourself? 👀

The NASA Lean Test measures changes in heart rate and blood pressure when moving from lying down to standing. It can help reveal patterns of orthostatic intolerance that might otherwise be missed during a typical office visit.

🔗 Want to learn more? Look up the NASA Lean Test protocol and bring it up with your healthcare provider.

Don’t underestimate symptom logging! Track your heart rate, symptoms, body position, and what you were doing when symptoms started. Consistent documentation can reveal patterns over time and give your doctor a clearer picture of what you’re experiencing.

Your symptoms deserve to be investigated, not dismissed. ❤️

What happens when a doctor sees your symptoms and stops at anxiety? 👀

Anxiety may be part of the conversation, but it shouldn’t automatically be the end of it. In Episode 9 of our POTS Series, we’re talking about how doctors can look beyond anxiety, recognize patterns in a patient’s symptoms, and identify when further evaluation for POTS may be needed.

Because the goal isn’t to dismiss anxiety OR assume every symptom is POTS. It’s to keep asking questions until you have a clearer picture of what’s actually going on. 🧠
