Autumn Wahl | IBCLC is here to talk breastfeeding!

Whether this is your first baby or you’re preparing to add another little one to your family, having some knowledge and support before birth can make such a difference in your breastfeeding journey.

Join us at Utah Birth Suites for a relaxed, practical, evidence-based prenatal breastfeeding class taught by Autumn Wahl, IBCLC, owner of Kiwi Lactation and a New Zealand-trained midwife.

What will be covered:
🌿 Getting breastfeeding off to a great start
🌿 Positioning and achieving a comfortable latch
🌿 Understanding newborn feeding patterns
🌿 Knowing your baby is getting enough milk
🌿 Hand expression, pumping, and bottle feeding
🌿 Common challenges and when to seek support

And of course, there will be time to ask questions and feel more confident heading into your postpartum season.

Throughout labor you may notice your body giving you breaks. This is by design 💫

Birth pauses may happen for different reasons, whether it’s to give your body a moment to rest and regain energy for the next phase of labor, maybe there is a change in labor patterns, the baby’s position, when there are changes in emotions, or changes in the environment. All of these are very normal!

When these pauses happen, we trust the wisdom of the body and support it to pause and rest. Oftentimes a few minutes of rest can do more good for your body than pushing through for another hour. 💗

It feels like time stops. All of the intensity is gone for a moment, the hard work has paid off, your baby is in your arms. A moment for joy and bliss, and to meet your baby face to face, skin to skin.

Cord burning is a beautiful, ceremonial way to separate the baby from the life-giving placenta. We always wait for the cord to stop pulsing and to turn white before separating the baby from the placenta. Some families decide to take it a step further and choose cord burning rather than cutting.

🔥 Traditionally, the cord is secured between mother and baby, and a flame is used to sever the cord instead of scissors. In Chinese medicine it is said that the placenta holds the Qi or life force. Cord burning brings the element of fire into this beautiful moment, symbolically warming and carrying that life force into the newborn.

This is a moment to honor the bridge between worlds in a slow, intentional way. ❤️
