Itchy eyes. Runny nose. Constant sneezing. Seasonal allergies are back... 🤧🌿

If you’re standing in the pharmacy aisle wondering what actually works, you’re not alone. Dr. Katie, Pediatrician at Palouse Pediatrics, shares that older antihistamines like Benadryl aren’t usually the best first choice for allergies in kids due to side effects like drowsiness and short duration. Instead, newer once-daily options like Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, and Xyzal tend to work longer and with fewer side effects.

For nasal symptoms, steroid nasal sprays such as Flonase, Nasacort, or Rhinocort can help reduce inflammation, while saline rinses can gently flush out allergens. And for those itchy, irritated eyes, lubricating drops, or allergy-specific drops, may be the best option for relief.

As spring blossoms and pollen fills the air, many families find themselves in the pharmacy aisle, overwhelmed by the myriad of allergy medications.
