✨A New Chapter Begins✨

As I prepare to move into my new office location, I'm feeling both excitement and gratitude. I will still be with an amazing team at Sojourn Counseling Group!

I will deeply miss my current space and the absolute beauty it expresses.

The office has held so many meaningful conversations, moments of healing, growth, and connection. It has truly been a special place.

At the same time, life reminds us that we are always fluid, always evolving.

Change can feel bittersweet, but it also creates space for new opportunities and continued growth.

As I transition into my new location, I want to share that my schedule remains limited. I currently have limited weekly availability, along with a few biweekly openings for new clients.
My schedule is open Monday-Friday.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. I look forward to welcoming you into this next chapter.

"Thanks to impermanence, everything is possible."

Here's to growth, new beginnings, and embracing what comes next. 🌿

A quick favor to ask of my community:

As a therapist intern, referrals and shares are one of the most meaningful ways people help connect others with support when they need it. If my work resonates with you and you know someone who may benefit, I'd be grateful if you'd consider sharing this post.

What is one eye BSP?
One-Eye Brainspotting (BSP) is a variation of Brainspotting in which the client keeps one eye covered while focusing on a specific eye position, or β€œbrainspot,” linked to emotional activation. Practitioners use this technique to access and process trauma, distressing experiences, or emotional blocks, with the goal of helping the brain naturally resolve and integrate unresolved material. It is typically used as part of a broader Brainspotting therapy session.

Anger Isn't the Problem

Anger is a normal, healthy human emotion.

Anger can signal that:
✨ A boundary has been crossed
✨ Something feels unfair
✨ A need isn't being met
✨ We feel hurt, scared, or overwhelmed

The goal isn't to eliminate anger.

The goal is learning how to respond to anger rather than react from it.
When we're dysregulated, anger can lead to yelling, shutting down, blaming, impulsive decisions, or saying things we later regret.

When we're regulated, anger can become information that helps us communicate, problem-solve, and set healthy boundaries.

Ways to Regulate Before Reacting:

🌿 Pause before responding. Give yourself permission to take a break.

🌿 Notice your body. Are your shoulders tight? Is your heart racing? Physical awareness helps interrupt automatic reactions.

🌿 Take slow, deep breaths. Longer exhales help calm the nervous system.

🌿 Move your body. Walk, stretch, or shake out tension.

🌿 Name the feeling. "I'm feeling angry right now" can reduce emotional intensity.

🌿 Ask yourself: "What is my anger trying to tell me?"

🌿 Return to the conversation when you can communicate clearly and respectfully.

Remember: Feeling angry doesn't make you a bad person. Learning how to manage anger is a skillβ€”and skills can be learned.

🀍Anger is an emotion. Aggression is a behavior. The difference matters.

With Kind Regards,

Dissociation is often misunderstood.

Many people experience it without realizing it.

It can feel like numbness, zoning out, disconnection, memory gaps, or feeling detached from yourself or the world around you.

But dissociation is not weakness.

It’s often the nervous system’s way of protecting us from overwhelm, fear, pain, or stress.

The brain is designed to help us survive. Sometimes disconnecting emotionally or mentally is the brain’s attempt to create safety when things feel too intense.

Healing begins with compassion β€” not shame.

Read that again!🀍🀍🀍🀍🀍🀍🀍🀍🀍🀍

Small grounding practices can help: ✨ Feel your feet on the floor
✨ Notice your breathing
✨ Hold something textured or cold
✨ Use gentle movement
✨ Practice orienting to the present moment
You do not have to β€œsnap out of it.”
Safety, support, and nervous system regulation matter.

Many people come to therapy carrying anxiety, depression, stress, overwhelm, chronic pain, burnout, or trauma. And those struggles deserve care and attention. But research also shows that when we intentionally identify strengths β€” resilience, creativity, humor, perseverance, compassion, problem-solving, even the ability to keep showing up β€” it can help shift both our mindset and our nervous system.

When our brain is constantly scanning for danger, criticism, or failure, the nervous system can stay stuck in β€œfight, flight, freeze, or shutdown” mode. This survival state can make it harder to think clearly, connect with others, rest, or feel hopeful.

Strength-based therapy doesn’t ignore pain. It helps create balance.

By noticing what is working, even in small ways, the brain begins to build a sense of safety and possibility. This can support the nervous system in moving toward a more regulated state β€” one where connection, calm, curiosity, and healing become more accessible.

In simple terms:
✨ Problems tell part of your story.
✨ Strengths tell us how you’ve survived it.

Sometimes healing begins not only by asking:
β€œWhat’s hurting?”
but also:
β€œWhat’s helped you make it this far?”

Your strengths may not erase the hard things.
But they can become part of the pathway through them.

🌿 Why does nature feel so healing? Science β€” and therapy β€” both have answers.

Research shows that spending time in nature can:
πŸƒ Lower cortisol (the body’s stress hormone)
🌞 Improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
🧠 Increase focus, emotional regulation, and nervous system calm
πŸ’š Support better sleep, heart health, and overall well-being

Even small doses matter. Looking at trees, sitting near water, gardening, or simply bringing plants and natural light indoors can positively affect the brain and body.

From a therapeutic perspective, nature helps create regulation and safety. Many therapists use grounding techniques connected to the senses β€” noticing the breeze, the smell of rain, the texture of leaves, or the sound of birds. These experiences help bring us back into the present moment and out of survival mode.

Nature also reminds us:
🌱 Healing is not linear
🌿 Rest is productive
πŸ‚ Seasons change β€” and so do we

Bringing green indoors through plants, natural textures, sunlight, or calming earth tones can offer similar nervous system benefits, especially when access to outdoor spaces is limited.

You do not have to hike a mountain to benefit from nature.
Sometimes healing begins with:
β˜€οΈ opening a window
πŸͺ΄ watering a plant
🚢 taking a short walk
🌳 sitting under a tree for five quiet minutes
