🔨 The Apprenticeship College of Health is building something new for healthcare: college that starts where learners already are, on the job, in their communities, and ready to grow. At the center of that effort is Executive Dean, Dr. Metoka Welch, a licensed mental health counselor turned academic leader whose career has been shaped by a single conviction: that the best education happens when classroom and practice are one and the same.

💡 We sat down with Dr. Welch to learn more about her vision for ACH, what drives her commitment to working adults, and what success really looks like when a college puts its learners first.

Moises said: “I was motivated and informed not only by the instructors but my peers within my cohort. I learned how important self-compassion is, how important self-care is, how important work-life balance is.”

🏆 Two proven leaders. One shared mission. 🏆

Behavioral health is not abstract. It is personal, urgent, and present in every community. Behind every workforce shortage is a human story: people who need care, people ready to serve, and too many barriers between them.

The Apprenticeship College of Health (ACH), created by Reach University and the Healthcare Training Fund, is building a new path into behavioral health careers by enabling people to earn a degree without student loan debt, while working and earning a salary.

This is about opening doors, strengthening the workforce, and expanding quality care for the communities that need it most. 🧡

Congratulations to the graduates of the latest Introduction to Healthcare and Employment Apprenticeship Program (IHAP) cohort!

Last Friday, we had the joy of celebrating Arivva's most recent IHAP graduates alongside Jane Hopkins, President of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, Council Member Jani Hitchens, of Pierce County , the team at Arivva - Pierce Center for Arts & Technology, and family and friends of graduates.

As a state-certified pre-apprenticeship program, IHAP prepares participants for careers in healthcare by building foundational workplace, academic, and professional skills. Graduates complete the program with industry-recognized certifications, including First Aid/BLS and Mental Health First Aid, and are better prepared to pursue employment in healthcare, continue into Nursing Assistant-Certified (NA-C) training, or enter registered apprenticeship opportunities. We are honored to celebrate these graduates’ hard work and dedication and the ongoing partnership between the Healthcare Training Fund, Health Care Apprenticeship Consortium, SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, employers, and community organizations that make pathways to quality union healthcare careers possible.
