Hermitage Richmond

Hermitage Richmond A place to celebrate life, nurture the body, mind and spirit, and develop lasting relationships and Ivy Nelson. In 1920 Mrs.

Jonathon Bryan thought he had the perfect wedding gift for his bride to be, Winifred Duffy, a mansion in the booming new suburb of Ginter Park. It was 1911 and Ginter Park had a trolley that would get you downtown in 15 minutes for only 5 cents! The couple lived there for three years before selling their first home to the Virginia Apple Land Corporation, who sold it to W.H. Louise Bauer purchased

the home from the Nelsons and renamed The Hermitage. After living there for over 20 years, Louise was very pleased at the prospect of her home having a significant future as the first community of its kind in Richmond. She not only provided generous financing terms but she also gifted two magnificent pieces of furniture (likely because they were too large to move!) When you come to visit take a look at yourself in the gold leaf framed mirror in the main hall and examine the detailed woodwork on the massive รฉtagรจre in the main parlor. The Hermitageโ€™s story started as a home and evolved into the first community of its kind in the biggest city in Virginia. It continues to be a home with warmth, generosity and hospitality that betters lives in Richmond and beyond.

Last week, we had the pleasure of having Kathleen "Kay" Jenkins as a guest speaker at the Hermitage Richmond.

Kay, a Professor of Sociology and Co-Chair of the Institute for Pilgrimage Studies at William & Mary, shared her research on families and her experiences walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage over the years. Her presentation reminded us that life is a journey filled with discovery, resilience, and connection; values that resonate deeply within the Hermitage Richmond community.

Thank you, Kay, for inspiring us through your knowledge and firsthand experiences with this historic pilgrimage! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿ˜Š

Check out Kay's book, Walking the Way Together, on Amazon!

During the month of June, we highlight the Cultivate pathway in our Pathways to Wellness program to honor Pollinator's Month and Outdoor Month.

In celebration of Cultivate Month, this morning we held the Hermitage Richmond Annual Floral Stroll! Residents and team members stopped at each flower bucket to create a personalized bouquet. This was a great way for residents to spend some time outdoors, interact with nature, and socialize with others! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฆ‹
