Safety is a community issue — and communities of color are often disproportionately impacted by preventable injuries, unsafe working conditions, traffic injuries, and health disparities. That’s why creating a culture of safety matters. This month, we are committed to raising awareness and sharing resources that help individuals, families, and communities stay safe at work, at home, and on the road. Small actions can make a big difference in protecting the health and well-being of our communities.

Men’s Health Month is a reminder that taking care of your health is not a weakness — it’s an act of strength. Communities of color often face higher rates of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers, yet many men delay preventive care and routine screenings.

Regular check-ups, physical activity, healthy eating, stress management, and mental health support can make a major difference in long-term health and quality of life. This month, encourage the men in your life to prioritize their health, schedule screenings, and speak openly about wellness. Healthy men help build healthier families and stronger communities.

Black Americans are disproportionately impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss, yet remain underrepresented in research studies. The Black American United Memory & Aging Project (BA-UMAP) is working to better understand the social, cultural, behavioral, and biological factors that affect brain health and aging in Black communities.

Adults ages 55+ may be eligible to participate in this important research study. Participation includes online questionnaires, memory activities, and health-related assessments. Compensation is available for eligible participants.

During Mental Health Month, we recognize the strength, resilience, and healing power found within women in communities of color. Women often carry the weight of caregiving, work, family responsibilities, trauma, and community leadership — while still facing barriers to mental health support and care.

Protecting your peace is not selfish. Rest, healing, and setting boundaries are necessary parts of wellness.

✔️ Connect with supportive people
✔️ Set boundaries without guilt
✔️ Prioritize joy and self-care
✔️ Seek help and healing when needed

The Black American United Memory & Aging Project (BA-UMAP) is a research study focused on understanding memory, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease in Black American communities. Researchers are working to identify social, cultural, environmental, behavioral, and biological factors that may affect brain health as we age.

Black Americans are nearly twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease and are often diagnosed later in the disease process. Studies like BA-UMAP help increase representation in research and support efforts to improve prevention, early detection, and treatment options.

Eligible participants:
• Identify as a Non-Hispanic Black American
• Age 55 or older
• Have not been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease
• Have an email address

Participants may complete questionnaires, memory activities, and provide saliva and urine samples. Compensation is available for eligible participants.

Mental Health Month is a reminder that struggling does not make you weak — and asking for help is a sign of strength. Communities of color often face unique stressors, including discrimination, financial hardship, trauma, and barriers to accessing mental health care.

You do not have to carry those burdens alone. Prioritizing your mental health is an important part of healing, wellness, and self-care.

✔️ Talk to someone you trust
✔️ Stay physically active
✔️ Make time for things that bring you joy
✔️ Reach out for professional support when needed

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We also recognize the countless contributions and sacrifices of service members from communities of color whose courage and commitment have helped shape our nation’s history.

Memorial Day is a time to reflect, remember, and express gratitude for those who gave their lives in service to others. It is also an opportunity to uplift the stories, resilience, and legacy of diverse communities who have served with honor across generations.

As we gather with family and loved ones, let us pause to remember those who are no longer with us and recommit ourselves to building stronger, more united communities.
