June 21st is National Seashell Day! It is celebrated annually on the first day of summer to coincide with the summer solstice and is meant to encourage ethical shelling, a practice that reminds beach combers to be mindful and take care of marine life.

Today, Juneteenth honors not only a historic day, but the ongoing story of resilience, heritage, and a story still being written.

Juneteenth, now a National holiday, traces back to June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

🌿 Exploring Natural Burial at Rosendale Cemetery 🌿

Recently, Michele and Kerry had the opportunity to visit the Natural Burial Area at Rosendale Cemetery in New York.

Walking through the woodland setting, we were struck by the simplicity and serenity of the space. Rather than rows of traditional monuments, the landscape itself becomes the memorial—native trees, forest floor, and peaceful paths.

As interest in green and natural burial continues to grow, we believe it's important to visit these special places firsthand so we can better educate and guide the families we serve. Seeing how natural burial honors both a life lived and the natural world was a meaningful experience.

Thank you to Rosendale Cemetery for preserving such a beautiful and thoughtful space for families seeking a more natural approach to burial.

On Flag Day, we reflect on the meaning of the American flag and the respect it represents—especially during services and ceremonies. Here are a few important guidelines for proper flag etiquette at services:

✨ The flag should always be treated with respect
It should never touch the ground, floor, or water.

✨ Position matters
The American flag should be placed in a position of honor—at the speaker’s right or centered and elevated above other flags.

✨ During services, observe respectfully
Guests should stand during the presentation or passing of the flag, and those who are able may place their right hand over their heart.

✨ Covering a casket
When used at a service, the flag is placed with the union (stars) over the left shoulder of the deceased and is never lowered into the grave.

✨ Handling with care
The flag should be folded properly and never used as decoration in a way that could be seen as disrespectful.
