What if we could measure the impact of a life lived? Your environment leaves a biological imprint.

The air you breathe.
The food and water you consume.
The places you live.
Even light, noise and social connection.

Together, these exposures make up your exposome, and Mayo Clinic researchers are studying how it may shape health and disease across a lifetime.

When Mayo Clinic leaders identified a growing need for certified surgical assistants more than a decade ago, they faced a challenge: Minnesota had no formal training pathway for the profession.

In response, Mayo Clinic developed the state's first Surgical First Assistant Program through Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences, creating a new route into the surgical workforce for both Mayo Clinic employees and external learners.

Since launching its first cohort in 2012, the program has graduated 170 surgical first assistants. Learn more about the program: https://mayocl.in/4i6QN7r

Lymphoma can come with a lot of unfamiliar medical terms. Here are a few you may hear, and what they mean.

• Pathology is the examination and testing of tissue by a pathologist. The findings help diagnose lymphoma, determine its exact subtype, determine how it may behave and guide individualized treatment.

• A subtype is a more specific classification of lymphoma based on characteristics of the cancer cells. A subtype looks at the type of lymphocyte involved and how the cells look and behave.

• Stage describes the extent and distribution of lymphoma in the body.

• Indolent vs. aggressive. Indolent lymphomas generally grow more slowly. Aggressive lymphomas tend to grow more quickly and may require treatment sooner.

• Remission means the signs of lymphoma have decreased or disappeared. It can be partial or complete.

• Cure generally means there is no evidence of lymphoma, and it is not expected to return.

Understanding these terms can make conversations about lymphoma a little easier. Your healthcare team can explain what they mean for your individual diagnosis and treatment.
