Our Down syndrome Achievement Centers provide programming and support to people with Down syndrome and their families.

GiGi's Playhouse of Rochester is one of the nationwide network of Down syndrome achievement centers; changing lives through free, results -driven programs for individuals of all ages, families and communities. Our mission is to change the way the world views Downs syndrome and to send a global message of acceptance to all.

🏦💰 Learning about money just got a little more exciting for our GiGi U participants!

We’ve been talking all about banking literacy, from deposits and withdrawals to different types of accounts, and this week we got to take our learning out into the community with a field trip to Canandaigua National Bank!

We had the opportunity to meet Jessica, who gave us a tour and walked us through all things banking. It was such a great way to bring everything we’ve been learning to life and build real-world skills!

🎃👻 What a SPOOKTACULAR night at GiGi’s Playhouse Rochester! 🧡

Our Halloween party was full of fun, food, dancing, trick-or-treating, and so many smiles! A huge thank you to our Youth Board for helping make the night so special and to all our families who came out to celebrate with us!

We had a fa-boo-lous time making memories together! 🕸️🍬

Did you know October is not only Down Syndrome Acceptance Month, but also AAC Awareness Month?

This month, we're highlighting the power of communication and the many ways individuals can share their voices. In our latest blog, Kristin Housel, our Speech-Language Pathologist at GiGi’s Playhouse Rochester, shares how Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can support connection, creativity, confidence, and so much more.

Kristin shares a special moment with our participant James, who used his AAC device to help write and share a song with his family and friends. 🎶 It's a beautiful reminder that communication is about so much more than words.

We’re so excited that Carson Meyer and the Rochester Americans are partnering with GiGi’s Playhouse Rochester for the second year in a row to welcome our Playhouse families to Amerks games!

As we partner with the Amerks to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, Carson’s Crew is another incredible opportunity for our families to connect, make memories, and enjoy the excitement of hockey together!

🎃👻 Halloween fun has officially arrived at GiGi’s Playhouse Rochester!

Our Teen Tastic and Fantastic Friends groups have been getting into the spooky spirit with some Halloween-themed fun! Our teens kicked things off by designing their very own haunted houses and playing Halloween Bingo. Then, our Fantastic Friends got creative with a pumpkin carving contest, and they did an AMAZING job! 🧡

We now have some pretty cool pumpkins decorating the front of our Playhouse, and we couldn’t be more excited for Halloween!

🎃 Don’t forget! Our Halloween Party is TOMORROW, October 27, from 5:30–6:30 PM! We can’t wait for more food, dancing, trick-or-treating, and Halloween fun!

🎃 A little STEM magic with a Halloween twist! 👻

This past Tuesday, our STEM Kids program got into the fall spirit with a hands-on pumpkin investigation! Our kids measured their pumpkins’ height using blocks, measured the width with a string, and made their best guesses about what might be hiding inside.

Then came the best part… opening up the pumpkins to discover what was inside! We explored with some fun sensory play and finished by drawing a face and carving our pumpkin. 🔬

Be sure to check out our STEM Kids pumpkin sitting right at the entrance of our Playhouse next time you visit! 🎃

October Volunteer Spotlight: Melissa! 💙

Meet Melissa, one of our amazing tutors at GiGi’s Playhouse Rochester! Melissa has been paired with Kareen for the past several sessions, and it has been so special to watch their relationship grow. From creative, hands-on literacy lessons to diving into math this session, these two make learning fun together! 📚✨

One of our favorite things? Seeing how excited they both are to see each other each week! And if you spot them rocking their matching GiGi’s Playhouse shirts, you know you’ve found one of our favorite duos! 🥰

We’re so grateful for volunteers like Melissa who bring creativity, dedication, and heart to our Playhouse community. 💙

What a NIGHT! 🥩🎉

Our annual Meat Raffle was a HUGE hit, and we are still thinking about all the fun, excitement, and incredible moments that made this event so special! From the friendly competition to the big wins, it was a night full of laughs, community, and so much support for GiGi’s Playhouse Rochester!
