James Walker Bagwell

James Walker Bagwell (“Jim”), age 77, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026.

Born on September 19, 1948, in Greenville, South Carolina, Jim moved to Cocoa, Florida, in 1961 and spent most of his life in Brevard County. He graduated from Cocoa High School and continued his education at Brevard Community College and Rollins College.

Jim served his country in the United States Army after being drafted during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career with Southern Bell, later BellSouth, retiring as a construction and telecommunications manger after 32 years. Never one to remain idle, he began a second career in real estate and, in 2006, became the co-owner and broker of Walker Bagwell Properties in Cocoa Beach, helping families throughout Brevard County buy and sell homes along the Space Coast for the next two decades.

While he took great pride in his professional accomplishments, Jim was most at home with his family and community. For many years, he coached youth baseball and soccer, spending countless evenings and weekends on ball fields and sidelines. Through his coaching, mentorship, and example, he became a positive influence in the lives of many young people who passed through his teams and remained connected to him long after their playing days were over.

Those who knew Jim will remember him most for his character. He possessed an unwavering sense of honesty and integrity. Jim was committed to doing what he believed was right, even when it came at a personal cost. He was a man whose word could be trusted, whose actions matched his principles, and whose quiet example left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Above all, Jim was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his sons, Ryan Daniel Bagwell and Shawn Walker Bagwell, and his sister, Betty Garrett. He is survived by his loving wife, Ada Long Bagwell; his son, William Jason Bagwell, and his partner, Ashlyn Hartnett; his sister, Sondra, and her husband, Ray Thibideau; and four grandchildren: Aidan, Bronté, Lilyana, and Madelyn.

Jim’s life was defined by service—to his country, his family, his friends, and his community. He leaves behind a legacy of honesty, hard work, generosity, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.

Betty Louise Cissel Rodenhausen

With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Betty Louise Cissel Rodenhausen, who died peacefully on April 27 at the age of 94.

Betty was raised in College Park, Maryland, where she grew up in the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church community, attended Holy Redeemer School and later graduated from Notre Dame Academy. Her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.

She worked as a secretary at the University of Maryland and later at a local insurance claims company. Together with her husband, Harold (“Lucky”), Betty was deeply involved in her church community, served on the Church Council, as a Eucharistic Minister, and helped to host parish events over many years. She also gave her time in service to others in the College Park community. This included her work at Attic Towers, where she helped support the well-being of its elderly residents.

Betty created a home filled with warmth and tradition by hosting large holiday gatherings, Christmas games, pool parties and slumber parties with grandchildren. She had a gift for bringing people together and making every occasion feel special. She loved her home and garden, served as president of her local garden club and tended her yard with pride. She was a resident on Mineola Road for over 70 years.

In her later years, she moved to Florida, where she enjoyed new friendships, shared meals and exercise classes.

Deeply affected by the loss of her husband and daughter, she carried that grief with strength and enduring love.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Harold F. Rodenhausen (1990); her mother, Marion Cerceo (1990); her daughter, Debbie Dunn (2026); and her son-in-law, Carl Dunn (2025).

She is survived by her children: H Fred Rodenhausen (Frederic Castellan), Robin Murphy (Victor), Keith Rodenhausen (Kim), and Karen Rodenhausen (Paul Rudell).

She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren: Carl Dunn III; Bryan Dunn (Brynne); Jeff Dunn (Dawn); Brian Rodenhausen (Dawn); Kirsten Orr (Jesse Jeter); Kyle Rodenhausen; Kaleb Rodenhausen (Erin); Allison Orr (Matthew Elgin), Brittany Orr; Victoria Murphy; Adam Murphy (Chanson); Kevin Rodenhausen; and Kristen Rodenhausen.

She is further survived by her 10 great-grandchildren: Sydney Griffin, Emily Dunn, Zac Dunn, Luke Dunn, Parker Dunn, Fiona Rodenhausen, Tate Jeter, Keith Rodenhausen III, Tillie Jeter, and Moira Rodenhausen.

A visitation, mass and reception will be held in her honor on September 12 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the parish she called home for more than 80 years.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family traditions that will continue to guide and inspire future generations. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Ellen Louise Butler Riffe

Passed away peacefully at her home in Melbourne, FL on May 15, 2026. Born 14 Sept 1938 in Rubyville, Ohio to Omar Butler and Clara Raike Butler deceased. Also deceased daughter Madeline Riffe Cross and brother Charles R. Butler. She is survived by her husband Nelson Lee Riffe, daughter Lauri Ann Yates (Harlan) and grandson Anthony Nelson Cross. She attended the old Rubyville school and graduated from Clay HS in 1956. She worked part time at Mercy Hospital while in school and attended nurse training there after graduation. In 1958 she married a soldier (Nelson) and moved to Seattle where she worked in medical insurance claims. Her move to Seattle was the first of 12 major moves she dealt with during her first 17 years of marriage. Her daughters were born at FT Monmouth, NJ and FT Benning, GA. She lived and worked, including volunteer work, in Bangkok, Thailand, Panama, CZ and Worms, Germany as well as several locations in the USA. While in Germany more than 13 years she worked as a personnel specialist in Mannheim, Heidelberg, Frankfurt and Darmstadt where she became GS12 chief of the Technical Services Branch. She lived in Worms, Germany the city where Martin Luther gave his historic "Here I Stand" speech during the "Diet Of Worms" and was condemned as a notorious heretic. Therefore, Luther fled to the Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Germany where he had lived as a schoolboy. Ellen and Nelson were guests of the German government for 3 days in the Wartburg Castle where Martin Luther translated the Bible from Greek to German and the result is again historic. Ellen enjoyed living overseas, driving on the German Autobahn, NASCAR and the company of her daughters who lived nearby in Germany and Melbourne. D.W. Swick Funeral Home in Sciotoville will provide final arrangements at a later date.
