In recovery, “get out of yourself” usually means one thing: think about yourself a little less. Call a newcomer. Set up a meeting. Link up with sober friends and actually have fun.

It is not a substitute for the rest of the work. It is what you do once that work is done for the day, and it is one of the reasons people stay sober.
