Dr. Glenn Yiu, Dr. Allison Liu and collaborators published new research in ARVO Translational Vision Science & Technology re: how retinal changes associated with aging may relate to cognitive decline.

Using OCT, researchers studied retinal layer thickness and neurocognitive function in rhesus macaques, advancing our understanding of aging and neurodegeneration. Read the paper:

UC Davis Health glaucoma specialists Dr. Tessnim Ahmad and Dr. James D. Brandt served as volunteer faculty with Orbis International in Vietnam last month. Drs. Ahmad and Brandt worked alongside other Orbis volunteer faculty at both the Da Nang Eye Hospital and on the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital to expand capacity and to train local eye surgeons across Central Vietnam in specialized clinical and surgical techniques.

On a busy screening day focused on pediatric glaucoma, Drs. Ahmad and Brandt examined over 20 patients with this rare disorder and during the rest of the week performed surgery on 10 patients with local trainees and gave lectures aboard the Flying Eye Hospital to over 50 ophthalmologists from across Vietnam.

We're grateful to Orbis and all the partners and volunteers working to build capacity for sight-saving care in Vietnam and beyond.

The UC Davis Eye Center is proud to have glaucoma specialists Dr. James Brandt and Dr. Tessnim Ahmad serving as volunteer faculty with Orbis in Vietnam this week.

Working alongside colleagues at Da Nang Eye Hospital, they are helping deliver comprehensive eye screenings and strengthen local capacity to provide specialized eye care for patients across Central Vietnam.
