Many men describe the same thing: they knew something was off, but they kept moving forward because stopping felt like the harder option.

That pattern is common, and it makes sense given how many men are raised to manage difficult feelings privately. But managing privately and managing well are not always the same thing. Anxiety, depression, and emotional exhaustion are not signs of poor character. They are conditions with real treatment options that work.

At Better Balance Psychiatry, we see men at every stage of this, from those taking the first step to those who have been in care for years and are looking to do more.

June is Men's Mental Health Month. This is a good time to start the conversation.

PTSD is not a sign of weakness, and it is not something people simply get over with time. It is a real response to real experiences, and it can show up in ways that are not always easy to name.

Some people live with PTSD for years before they find language for what they are carrying. Hypervigilance, sleep disruption, emotional numbness, and sudden intrusive memories are common. These are not character flaws. They are symptoms, and they respond to treatment.

June is PTSD Awareness Month, and at Better Balance Psychiatry, our providers are trained to work with trauma across its many forms, whether the experience is recent or decades old.
You do not have to have it all figured out before reaching out.

Summer break arrives with a mix of excitement and disruption. For many young people, the shift away from school routines can quietly affect sleep, mood, and daily structure in ways that are easy to overlook.

The long days can feel like freedom, and sometimes they do. But for teens and kids who rely on the predictability of a school week, an unstructured summer can surface anxiety, irritability, or low motivation that families are not sure how to interpret.

At Better Balance Psychiatry, our providers work with children, teens, and families through every season, including the ones that do not show up on an academic calendar.

If your child seems off this summer, that observation matters. Support is available when you are ready to talk.

International Day of Action for Women's Health

Women's health isn't just physical. It includes mental health, emotional wellbeing, and access to care that actually listens.

Today, we recognize the International Day of Action for Women's Health and the reality that too many women still face barriers to getting the support they need.

Whether it's dismissive providers, financial obstacles, or the weight of managing everyone else's needs before your own, these barriers are real. And they shouldn't keep you from care.
At Better Balance Psychiatry, we treat women with the respect, attention, and personalized care you deserve. Your concerns matter. Your experience matters. You matter.

In Episode 11 of our Take a Minute for Mental Health series, Russ Mickelson addresses men’s mental health and why breaking the silence is a sign of true strength.

Societal expectations often pressure men to struggle in silence. However, carrying every burden alone impacts your well-being and your relationships. Real strength isn’t about hiding vulnerability; it’s about having the courage to recognize when you need support.

Prioritizing your mind builds deeper resilience and helps you become the best version of yourself.

Take small, meaningful steps today by:
Talking openly with a trusted family member, friend, or professional
Prioritizing your physical well-being through sleep and exercise
Checking in with your emotions instead of brushing them aside
Remembering that seeking help is a courageous act of strength

Real strength includes taking care of your mind. Better Balance Psychiatry is here to support our community.

This week's focus: when medication alone isn't delivering the relief you need, treatment doesn't stop there.

Therapy, lifestyle changes, support groups, and alternative approaches can all work alongside or in place of medication. Recovery isn't one-size-fits-all, and neither is treatment.

If your current plan isn't working, that doesn't mean nothing will. It means it's time to explore what else is available.

At Better Balance Psychiatry, we work with you to build a treatment plan that fits your life, your goals, and your needs. You're not stuck with what isn't working.

In Episode 10 of our Take a Minute for Mental Health series, Russ Mickelson discusses the power of setting healthy boundaries and why they are essential for your emotional wellness.

Many people assume that boundaries push others away. In reality, they are a fundamental form of self-care. Healthy boundaries protect your peace, reduce daily stress, and ultimately strengthen your relationships. Setting limits isn't a selfish act, it is a healthy, necessary choice that prevents emotional exhaustion and brings balance back into your life.

Protecting your mental health doesn't require dramatic changes. Often, it begins with small, intentional decisions to communicate your needs clearly.

Start prioritizing your wellness by:
Communicating your limits to others clearly and calmly
Taking deliberate breaks whenever you feel overwhelmed
Giving yourself explicit permission to pause and reset
Checking in with yourself daily to ask, "Where do I need healthier boundaries in my life?"

Healthy boundaries protect your peace and support healthier relationships. Better Balance Psychiatry is here to support our community.

This week, we're observing SAMHSA's National Prevention Week. Here's what many people don't realize: you don't have to wait until you're in crisis to get help.

Prevention means recognizing the early signs and reaching out when stress starts to feel unmanageable, not when it becomes unbearable. Early intervention leads to better outcomes, faster recovery, and stronger long-term resilience.

You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support. You don't have to hit rock bottom to ask for help.

At Better Balance Psychiatry, we treat every patient with compassionate, personalized care. If you've been thinking about reaching out, now is the time.
