One more weekend before the pace picks back up.

However you're spending it, give yourself permission to rest, unplug, and not think about routines just yet.

See you on the other side of Labor Day. 🌊

New schedules, new routines, new everything.

For some of us, this fall carries extra weight beyond the usual back-to-school shuffle.

However this season is landing for your family, give yourselves room.

Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely. 🌊

End of summer, right here. Grateful for the slower days before things pick back up.

Wishing you all a soft landing into fall, whatever that looks like for you.

Nature has a way of slowing us down.

When we're surrounded by constant demands, our nervous system can stay on high alert. Stepping outside invites us to notice things we often miss. The breeze. The sounds of birds. The rhythm of our own footsteps.

That doesn't make difficult emotions disappear. It can, however, help our minds and bodies feel safe enough to explore them.

That's one of the reasons I sometimes incorporate Walk & Talk Therapy into my practice.

When children come to us with big emotions, it's easy to feel like we need to solve the problem right away.

Often, what they need most is something much simpler.

Someone to listen without rushing.
Someone to stay present without trying to fix every feeling.
Someone who reminds them they don't have to navigate hard moments alone.

You don't have to have the perfect response.

Your calm presence can be one of the most powerful tools your child has. πŸ’™

Sometimes our hearts remember before our minds do.

Anniversaries can quietly bring back emotions we weren't expecting. Children may not recognize why they feel more worried, more emotional, or more withdrawn. They simply know something feels different.

This is a gentle reminder that healing isn't measured by the absence of difficult days. Healing is allowing those feelings to come and go without believing we've failed.

If this week feels heavy, take things one moment at a time. Offer yourself the same compassion you would offer someone you love.

You don't have to rush through grief to keep moving forward. πŸ’™

I visited the Memorial to Survivors of Sexual Violence recently.

It's a quiet, powerful reminder: silence protects the harm, not the person carrying it. If you're holding something you've never said out loud, to anyone, that's not weakness. That's just where you are right now. And there's a way through it.

You don't have to carry it alone.

Before we ask children to focus, solve problems, or regulate their emotions, they often need a moment to simply breathe.

Nature has a remarkable way of slowing us down.

Whether it's sitting outside, watching the trees move, or taking a short walk together, those quiet moments can help prepare children for everything that comes next. πŸ’™

After trauma, children often need more than time to heal.

They need safe relationships. They need opportunities to express what they're feeling. They need caring adults who understand that healing looks different for every child.

Helping Heal Little Hearts is a small therapy group designed for children impacted by school gun violence. Together, we'll focus on building coping skills, restoring a sense of safety, and helping children move forward with hope.

Groups meet Tuesdays in St. Paul.

Please reach out if you'd like to learn more or see if this group is the right fit for your child. πŸ’™

Children don't always tell us how they're feeling.

Sometimes they build it. Sometimes they draw it. Sometimes they act it out.

Play gives children another way to communicate when words feel too difficult. When we pay attention to their play, we often learn far more than we expected. πŸ’™
