Losing weight on a GLP-1? Make sure you are not losing the wrong kind.

Research shows that part of the weight lost on medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide can come from lean muscle, not just fat. Muscle supports your metabolism, strength, and balance, especially as you get older.

That is why every Transition patient gets a weekly body composition analysis. We track muscle and fat separately, so if muscle starts slipping, your provider and dietitian can adjust your protein, activity, and plan right away.

Read our new article on protecting muscle during medical weight loss on the Transition blog.

💡 Tip of the Week: Make Your Environment Work for You!

Did you know that your surroundings can have a big impact on your eating habits? Making healthy choices isn't always about having more willpower. Sometimes, it's simply about making those choices easier and more convenient!

When life gets busy, we're naturally more likely to reach for whatever is quick and readily available. By making a few small changes to your environment, you can set yourself up for success without having to rely on motivation alone.

Here are a few simple ways to make your environment work for you:

🥗 Keep healthy foods within reach. Store washed fruit, cut vegetables, Greek yogurt, and other nutritious options where you can easily see and grab them.

🥚 Make protein convenient. Keep easy protein options available, such as hard-boiled eggs, protein shakes, cottage cheese, or pre-portioned meals, so you always have something satisfying ready to go.

🍪 Make tempting foods less convenient. Instead of leaving cookies, candy, or chips on the counter, store them out of sight or purchase smaller portions. Sometimes, simply removing the visual reminder can make a difference!

🍽️ Plan ahead for busy days. Pack your lunch, prepare snacks, or decide what you're having for dinner before hunger and exhaustion make those decisions for you.

💧 Keep water nearby. Having a water bottle at your desk, in your car, or wherever you spend most of your day can encourage you to stay hydrated.

Remember, you don't need perfect willpower to be successful. The more you design your environment to support your goals, the easier it becomes to build healthy habits that last!

SCREEEMFEST is back at Canobie Lake Park, right here in Salem, through October 31. Brave enough to go?

Bonus: a night of walking between haunted houses, rides, and the midway can add up to thousands of steps without ever feeling like a workout.

At Transition, those steps count. Our Practice Better app syncs with your smart device, so your activity, food tracking, recipes, and messages with your care team all live in one place between visits.

What if "what's for lunch?" was already answered for you?

Our Complete Care + Meals plan includes all of your food (meals, snacks, and drinks from 600+ options), all supplements, a weekly B12 injection, comprehensive lab work, and a Drive Custom Fit gym membership. Your provider and registered dietitian visits are billed to your insurance.

It works out to about $23 a day, food included. Less guesswork, more structure, and a clear plan from day one.

Ask our team to walk you through all three plans.

Tip of the Week: Portion sizes can be eye-opening

Some calorie-dense foods do not look like much, but small differences in portion size can add up surprisingly quickly.

This does not mean these foods are "bad" or that you need to avoid them. Many are nutritious foods that can absolutely be part of a healthy diet. The key is knowing how much you are actually eating.

Here are a few examples:
- Peanut butter: 2 Tbsp is about 190 calories. A generous 4 Tbsp spread on a sandwich is about 380 calories.
- Peanuts: 1 oz, or about 28 g, is roughly 170 calories. A full cup can contain around 800+ calories.
- Olive oil: 1 Tbsp is about 120 calories. Free-pouring 3 Tbsp onto a salad or into a pan adds about 360 calories.
- W**e: A standard 5 oz glass is roughly 120 calories, while a generous 9 oz pour may be around 215 calories.
- Granola: A 1/2-cup serving is often around 200 to 250 calories. Filling a cereal bowl with 1 cup can easily reach 400 to 500 calories.
- Trail mix: Just 1/4 cup is often around 150 to 180 calories. A cup eaten while snacking can approach 600 to 700+ calories.
- Cheese: 1 oz is usually around 100 to 120 calories. A few unmeasured slices or chunks totaling 3 oz can be 300 to 360 calories.
- Salad dressing: 2 Tbsp may contain 120 to 150 calories. A 1/4-cup pour doubles that to roughly 240 to 300 calories.
- Hummus: 2 Tbsp is around 60 to 80 calories, but 1/2 cup can be around 240 to 320 calories.
- Coffee creamer: Depending on the product, 1 Tbsp may be around 30 to 40 calories. A generous 1/4 cup can add 120 to 160 calories before the day has even really started.

Nutrition varies by brand and recipe, so always check the label when possible. The goal is not to obsess over every gram of food. Instead, consider using a food scale, measuring cups, or measuring spoons for calorie-dense foods until you develop a better eye for portions.

Even measuring for a week or two can be surprisingly educational. What looks like "a little peanut butter," "a handful of nuts," or "a splash of dressing" may be considerably more than you thought.

Awareness creates better choices.
