Something wickedly fun has arrived at the Salem Hospital gift shop! 🧙‍🎃

Cast a spell on your fall décor, treat yourself to festive clothing or pick up a Halloween surprise for someone special. With decorations, apparel and other seasonal favorites, there is plenty to make your October a little more magical.

Fly by the gift shop on the fourth floor near the hospital’s main entrance. Hours are 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday.

Chantelle is a trusted and positive presence in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), always ready to help patients feel comfortable, support her colleagues, and keep even the busiest days running smoothly. From stepping up when the unit needs extra support to brightening the workplace through thoughtful acts of kindness, she makes a difference every day.

Salem Hospital was pleased to welcome Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo and members of his team for a Mobile Mayor’s Office visit on Sept. 29.

During the eight-hour visit, Mayor Pangallo and his team met with members of the hospital community to discuss housing, Halloween planning and other constituent services. Hospital leaders Roxanne Ruppel, president and COO, and Kevin Inman, DNP, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Patient Care Services, also welcomed the group for a tour of several clinical areas, including the Emergency Department, Infusion, Radiology and the ICU.

Thank you to Mayor Pangallo and his team for spending the day with us and helping strengthen the connection between Salem Hospital and the City of Salem.

Today we held another Mobile Mayor’s Office, taking our team out of City Hall and into the community to connect with people directly.

Thanks to the folks at Hospital for their hospitality and to the many employees, patients and families, and neighbors who stopped by to meet with me and the Mayor’s Office staff!

Salem Hospital Board of Trustee members recently visited The Salem Pantry for an up-close look at how local partnerships are improving access to care, nutritious food and other essential resources across the North Shore.

The visit included tours of the Mass General Brigham Community Care Van, The Salem Pantry Mobile Market and the pantry’s nearly renovated warehouse, where a second community market is planned to open in the spring. Salem Hospital and pantry leaders also discussed creating a direct pathway to services for Emergency Department patients who screen positive for food insecurity.

“This partnership is a strong example of how we can connect clinical care, nutritious food and supportive resources so more patients and families across the North Shore have the opportunity to thrive,” said Elsie M. Taveras, MD, MPH, chief Community Health & Health Equity officer and executive director of the Kraft Center for Community Health.

Tina McLoughlin, director of Community Health at Salem Hospital, called the partnership “very collaborative and robust” and said the visit offered “a greater appreciation of the power of the partnership.”

Meet Nori, a 7-year-old Golden Retriever with a special talent for brightening someone's day. As a member of Salem Hospital's pet therapy team, Nori visits patients and staff each week, offering comfort, connection and companionship. 🐕

Golden Retrievers are often considered the "gold standard" of therapy dogs because of their ability to sense and respond to human emotions, and Nori demonstrates that gift every day.

Meet Charlotte, one of Salem Hospital's beloved pet therapy dogs.

Charlotte is an 8-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi and has been a pet therapy dog at Salem since the program started in 2020.

Whether she's visiting patients, supporting families or helping staff members take a moment to recharge, Charlotte brings warmth, comfort and plenty of smiles wherever she goes.

Charlotte is somewhat of a local celebrity and has been featured on many news sites including , , and . You can follow her various adventures and service visits on her Instagram account .

She visits weekly and loves when staff recognize her and call out her name. You could say Charlotte is helping make a paw-sitive impact across the Salem Hospital community, one visit at a time. 🐾❤️

Last week we held our Recovery Month Celebration. J. Deanna Wilson, MD, MPH, Presidential Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania gave our keynote address to 60 attendees, explaining how systems and policy shape addiction treatment and the ways they can be redesigned to create more equitable pathways to recovery. Attendees heard a panel discussion featuring members of our multidisciplinary addiction workforce. They shared how their diverse roles support people on their recovery journeys. At the end, we announced the four recipients of this year's Substance Use Disorder Champion Award, which recognizes staff members who are making a meaningful impact in their everyday work.

Following the celebration a few days later, a group of 22 staff from across the system represented Mass General Brigham at the Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR) Recovery Day Rally and March at the Boston Common. This annual event seeks to honor recovery and the people who make it possible.
