Expecting a baby and covered by TRICARE? There’s good news for growing military families.
The TRICARE Childbirth and Breastfeeding Support Demonstration (CBSD) has been extended through Dec. 31, 2031. That means more time to access extra support before, during, and after your birth – at no out-of-pocket cost when using network providers.
If you have TRICARE Prime, TRICARE Prime Remote, or TRICARE Select and you’re planning to give birth outside a military hospital or clinic, you may qualify for:
• In-person support from certified labor doulas
• Expanded breastfeeding counseling options, including virtual support
The CBSD is available in the U.S. and overseas, with options to use certified labor doulas, lactation consultants, and lactation counselors in addition to TRICARE-authorized medical providers.
If you’re at least 20 weeks pregnant (for doula support) or 27 weeks pregnant (for breastfeeding support), now is the time to learn what’s available to you and your family.

Readiness in action at Dover Air Force Base!
Personnel from the Dover AFB military medical treatment facility provided critical medical support during Phoenix Forge, a multi-wing exercise designed to strengthen operational readiness and patient care in challenging environments.
The team prepared 34 simulated casualties – actors and mannequins – with realistic injuries, including blast trauma, open fractures and facial burns. Their expert moulage helped create demanding scenarios that challenged 28 participants during mass-casualty and mass-fatality response training.
Dover’s medical personnel also facilitated hands-on Tier 1 and Tier 2 Tactical Combat Casualty Care training, 9-Line medical evacuation calls and MIST reporting drills. Throughout the exercise, they provided 24/7 field support and medical monitoring to help keep participants and cadre safe.
This training directly supports our mission: ensuring our military medical teams are ready to deliver safe, effective and timely health care wherever they are needed.
