Our providers hear these weight and metabolic health questions every single day. Here’s what they tell patients.
⠀
“Why can’t I lose weight even though I eat healthy and exercise?”
Weight regulation involves appetite signals, stress, hormones, sleep, medications, muscle mass and energy balance. We look at all of these before deciding what makes sense.
⠀
“What kind of diet should I be on?”
The focus isn’t a “diet.” Prioritize protein, healthy fats and seasonal, whole foods over anything processed. And don’t drink your calories.
⠀
“Is it all about calories?”
Not all calories are created equal. Some give you energy with very little nutrition. Others are packed with what your body needs to function, repair and stay full.
⠀
“Should I be taking a GLP-1 medication?”
GLP-1 medications can be powerful tools for the right patients. We weigh the benefits and risks, with a focus on good nutrition, strength training and protecting muscle.
⠀
“Can I be insulin resistant if my glucose is normal?”
Yes. Early insulin resistance can show up before fasting glucose rises. We look at your history, waist circumference, cholesterol patterns and the right lab tests.
⠀
“Should I be doing intermittent fasting?”
It can help some people, but it isn’t necessary for everyone. What matters more is metabolic health, enough protein, good sleep and an eating pattern you can stick with.
⠀
“Why does muscle matter so much for longevity?”
Muscle does more than make you strong. It helps regulate blood sugar and supports mobility, metabolic health and independence as you age.
⠀
“What’s the best kind of exercise?”
Prioritize strength training at least 2–3 times a week, plus regular walking and cardio. Building and keeping muscle is one of the best things you can do for your metabolism, bones and longevity.
