Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF) is a national nonprofit founded in 1978 in San Francisco to encourage innovative research toward better treatments for people with glaucoma. In addition to advancing innovation in glaucoma research, GRF provides education and support for people with glaucoma and sponsors catalyst meetings like the annual Glaucoma 360 New Horizons Forum to foster collaboration and speed the cure.

We’re honored to share that the Glaucoma Research Foundation has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Community Hero Award from Braille Institute.

The Community Hero Awards recognize organizations and leaders who are breaking barriers, expanding accessibility, and creating opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired. GRF was recognized for bringing hope to individuals and families through innovative glaucoma research and trusted educational resources, including our partnership with Braille Institute to develop accessible audiobook resources for people living with vision loss.

We are deeply grateful for this recognition and proud to stand alongside fellow honorees working to build a more inclusive future for the blind and low-vision community. The awards will be presented during the 2026 Braille Challenge Finals, taking place June 26–28 at the University of Southern California.

Thank you to our supporters, researchers, volunteers, partners, and the glaucoma community. Your commitment makes this work possible and helps move us closer to a future free from vision loss.

Meet Leo — a brave 13-year-old from New Zealand living with congenital glaucoma. Since birth, Leo has undergone more than 50 eye surgeries and countless hospital visits, all while continuing to show incredible strength, positivity, and resilience.

Now, Leo and his family are fundraising to travel to the 2026 Glaucoma Patient Summit — a place where patients and families from around the world come together to learn, connect, and find hope through education, advocacy, and community.

Leo has already become a powerful advocate in his own community, helping classmates understand what living with glaucoma is really like through awareness presentations and vision simulation activities.

We’re inspired by Leo’s courage and determination, and we hope our community can help support his journey to the Summit. 💚

🥗 Recipe Wednesday: Eat for Your Eyes
This roasted butternut squash salad is as nourishing as it is delicious ✨ Packed with leafy greens, crunchy pecans, tart cranberries, and creamy goat cheese, it’s a colorful way to support your eye health.

Here's how to make it:
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a mixing bowl, toss the butternut squash with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, the agave nectar, and 1 teaspoon each of the salt and pepper. Spread in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment. Bake until tender and golden, 20 to 25 minutes, tossing after 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Assemble the baby greens, cranberries, pecans, and goat cheese in a salad bowl. Top with the butternut squash. In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining olive oil, vinegar, mustard, chives, ¼ teaspoon salt, and extra pepper into a vinaigrette and toss with the salad. Serve immediately.
