Valley Health Center East Valley is hosting a Kids’ Health Fair on Saturday, October 3, from 8:30 am-2 pm at 1993 McKee Road in San Jose. The event will feature helmet giveaways and fittings, blood pressure checks for adults, arts and crafts, health resources, and raffles for bikes, toys, and books.

Pediatric flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are available by appointment only. Adult flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are available on a walk-in basis at the onsite pharmacy. Call Valley Connection at (888) 334-1000 to make an appointment.

In observance of Falls Prevention Awareness Week (this week), our Trauma Center team spent the morning at Senior Safari at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo. The team shared fall prevention resources, like how to choose proper footwear and a home safety checklist.

Quick tips to keep your home safe:
- Remove items that can trip you
- Increase lighting
- Make stairs safe
- Put in grab bars if needed

Congratulations to our Compassion in Action Employee of the Month – Dr. Karan Aletty. A patient nominated him for being “top notch” for listening carefully, explaining things clearly, responding to concerns, and considering their emotional well-being.

Compassion in Action is an employee recognition program launched by staff at Regional Medical Center as a way for patients, their loved ones, and staff to send a note of appreciation. Each month the Compassion in Action committee reviews submissions and celebrates a compassionate employee.

Twenty new emergency beds are now open in our Emergency Room (ER), bringing the total count to 54. We've expanded our ER capacity by nearly 60% to better meet community needs.

Older adults are invited to attend an Age Well, Drive Smart Presentation to learn tips on how to stay safe on the road and age well behind the wheel on August 12 from 10 am to noon at Valley Health Center McKee. Our Trauma Services team and the California Highway Patrol present this free workshop to provide drivers age 65 and older with the keys to safely maintain their driving independence.

Kiana decided to have her baby close to home at Regional Medical Center because we offer the care she wanted. Our Birth Center offers triage services, private birthing suites, comprehensive post-delivery care that supports rest, recovery, and learning about the needs of the new baby, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Since Santa Clara Valley Healthcare opened the Birth Center at Regional Medical Center in October 2025, hundreds of new families have received care close to home. As part of HCA Healthcare, we're proud to announce a $4.8 million gift to Pepperdine University to help launch the School of Nursing with the Pepperdine University College of Health Science. This is part of HCA Healthcare's greater commitment to helping address the national nursing shortage.

“We believe that investing in nursing education is vital to the future of healthcare,” said Sammie Mosier, DHA, MA, BSN, NE-BC, senior vice president and chief nurse executive for HCA Healthcare. “It is a privilege to support Pepperdine University’s new School of Nursing as they prepare the next generation of caregivers with the tools, confidence and compassion to care for patients and communities.”

Pepperdine’s School of Nursing opened this fall and currently enrolls 68 students. The school provides undergraduate and graduate nursing degree programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and an Entry Level Master of Science, Clinical Nurse Leader (ELM-CNL). As part of their curriculum, nursing students will have the opportunity to complete clinical rotations at our hospital, Los Robles Regional Medical Center, in Thousand Oaks, California.

Alexis Mussi has always been a champion for culture, teamwork and operational excellence. We're proud to welcome her back to MountainView Hospital as CEO and look forward to the impact she'll continue to make across the HCA Healthcare Far West Division.

Welcome Alexis Mussi, new chief executive officer at MountainView Hospital!

This new position is a homecoming of sorts for Alexis, who led Surgical Services at MountainView Hospital before joining Southern Hills in 2016 as Chief Operating Officer, ultimately becoming CEO in 2019. Alexis began her healthcare career at Sunrise Children’s Hospital in 2008 as Director of Physician and Provider Relations, later advancing through leadership roles that fueled her passion for operations and strategy.

Alexis transformed Southern Hills during her tenure, growing the hospital from 134 to 331 beds and leading milestone projects such as the state’s first freestanding emergency room, ER at the Lakes, and the Division’s first psychiatric facility, the Pavilion.

Beyond these achievements, Alexis is known as a culture champion, bringing teams together to advance our mission -- the care and improvement of human life.
