Your pets have enough to worry about, and Rabies shouldn’t be one of them!🦇 Sept. 28th is , so let’s talk about keeping your two- and four-legged family members safe. ❤️
Here are 4 things to know before things get wild:
💉 1. Keep those vaccines current!
Make sure your pet is up to date on their Rabies vaccine. Rules vary by location, so your veterinarian is the best source for what your pet needs.
🦝 2. If wildlife is acting weird… don’t make friends.
If an animal known to carry Rabies is behaving abnormally or has been in contact with your pet, call animal control right away. Never handle a wild animal or put yourself at risk of a bite.
⏰ 3. Exposure? Don’t wait!
If you or your pet may have been exposed to Rabies, contact your health care provider and veterinarian right away. When it comes to Rabies, time matters.
🦇 4. Bats are cute from a distance. Keep it that way.
Bats are the leading cause of human Rabies deaths in the U.S., accounting for more than 7 out of 10 fatal cases. And you may not always see a bite or scratch. Never handle a bat or other wild animal.
🏠 5. Even if your cat is a homebody, the outside👏🏽can👏🏽still👏🏽get👏🏽inside👏🏽
The chances of a bat or other rabies-suspected mammal are low, but never zero. So why risk it for this fatal disease?
🚨 Found a bat where people or pets could be exposed? Call your local animal control and report it.
