Right place. Right time.
The most meaningful travel moments are the ones that can’t be planned. Here are my top 10 takeaways from a morning with sea turtles.
1. A global phenomenon (aka miracle) - masses of turtles arrive on only about a dozen beaches on Earth
2. Strength in numbers- this is the smallest turtle species, but they travel in numbers and cannot be overlooked or under appreciated
3. Heart shaped shell - enough said!
4. Magnetism- they are guided by unseen attraction and never loose their way
5. Socially interdependent- they remind us not to go it alone
6. Omnivores - everything is nourishment (unless it’s not)
7. Deep divers - down to 500 feet
8. Unpredictable- they are wanderers with no fixed path
9. Sensitivity - temperature determines s*x; too hot? Too few males
10. Abundance - these turtles arrive by the thousands, and mass-nesting is unique to only two species: these Olive Ridley and the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle.
