June is Mango Month, a time to celebrate and enjoy this sweet, juicy, tropical fruit. Even better, it provides a host of health benefits for seniors.

• A great source of fiber, mangoes support and improve overall digestive health.
• Regular mango consumption can increase collagen production for better skin and fewer wrinkles.
• Mangoes have been shown to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
• Vitamin K and other minerals in mangoes promote bone strength and health.

Reach for a mango this month and all year long to reap these and other nutrition and health benefits.

Many people are unfamiliar with aphasia, which is even more reason to highlight Aphasia Awareness Month.

• About 2 million Americans are living with aphasia, with around 180,000 diagnoses a year.
• Aphasia affects a person’s speech and language cognition abilities.
• It often occurs after a stroke or from progressive conditions like Alzheimer’s.
• Aphasia can impact anyone of any age, though older adults are most commonly affected.

Aphasia is sometimes mistaken for dementia, though individuals with aphasia retain memory and intellect but cannot express it. Visit the link in the comments if you’d like to learn more.

“Their sacrifice was the ultimate act of love for their country. May we always remember them.” — Unknown

This Memorial Day, our community at The Meadows Senior Living honors those who gave everything to secure the freedoms we enjoy. Take a moment to reflect on and remember these heroes—and live each day in a way that is worthy of their sacrifice.

We know summer is on its way, so we officially kicked off the season at The Meadows with a Hawaiian Luau.

Residents were encouraged to wear their loudest and brightest shirts—floral print preferred. Some wore grass skirts, and everyone got a floral lei. We enjoyed live music, dancing, a surf-and-turf meal, and spiked punch. What a great way to welcome summer!

Some of our residents at The Meadows took full advantage of a beautiful late-April day to visit Como Zoo in St. Paul. We walked through the colorful gardens and saw so many amazing animals. This was a perfect day for exploring.

We had so much fun celebrating Cinco de Mayo in our community at The Meadows.

Residents practiced the Macarena dance for several days before our celebration, and they were excited to perform for us at our Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour celebration. We also served up the yummiest strawberry, mango, and lime margaritas!!

Throughout the year, we have some of the coolest artists performing at The Meadows. Mark and Lisa—known as The Floras—have become a favorite among residents. The husband and wife singing duo played some of the best 50s rock tunes for us. What a rock ‘n roll treat!
