At the end of last month, our community at The Meadows celebrated the birthdays of all our residents born in August. We had a fantastic turnout. Monroe Wright performed live music for us while everyone enjoyed birthday cake and each other’s company.

“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity.” — Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, we celebrate the strength and tenacity of all the workers whose dedication keeps our communities moving forward each day.

Happy Labor Day from The Meadows Senior Living.

Did you know? There are more than 55 million people across the globe currently living with dementia. About 60–70% of those have Alzheimer’s.

September is World Alzheimer’s Month and the ideal time to talk about this disease, promote research efforts, support caregivers, and advocate for early detection. With early diagnosis comes greater options for care, support, and management.

One of our regular activities at The Meadows is a monthly “Cooking with Alisha” group. Residents meet twice each month to discuss all things related to cooking and preparing meals.

During our first monthly meetings, we watch cooking videos, including videos of funny cooking fails. Afterward, we have open discussions and allow time to reminisce about favorite meals from childhood and laugh over our various kitchen mishaps. The second meeting of each month is when everyone brings a dish to share, based on that month’s theme.

For August, the theme was “brunch.” So, residents brought their favorite brunch items! Some of them no longer cook, so they connect with neighbors to cook together.

We have been doing this activity for a little more than a year, and the experience has been so inspiring and rewarding. Some residents come just to taste all the goodies!

Earlier this month, some residents at The Meadows took advantage of "Fair Season" and went to the Dakota County Fair in Farmington. The weather was HOT, but we all enjoyed treats and cold beverages, the petting zoos, and the exhibits!

In August 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5847, which declared August 21 as a day to recognize and celebrate the lifelong achievements and contributions of older adults. National Senior Citizens Day was first officially celebrated in 1991.

Today, we honor all the seniors in our community and beyond—those who continue to contribute their wisdom, knowledge, and friendship in so many ways. We appreciate you more than we can ever say.

Some of our residents at The Meadows recently visited the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre for an afternoon of good company and lots of fun. We took in a performance of Guys and Dolls, the first time this musical comedy has been on the Chanhassen stage in more than three decades!

Everyone enjoyed the show and a meal!

During the National Night Out event earlier this month, residents at The Meadows got to know their neighbors, community members, and local officers with exciting activities, including karaoke and a table for playing blackjack. We shared snacks and laughs while making great memories together.

Even now, a few weeks later, residents are still talking about how much fun they had.

During National Wellness Month, our community at The Meadows Senior Living has some tips for incorporating healthy habits to improve overall wellness.

✅ Drink more water. Aim for at least 64 ounces each day.
✅ Monitor sleeping habits to encourage more shuteye. Try to get 7–9 hours of sleep each night.
✅ Add more fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet. Set a goal of 5 servings per day.
✅ Increase physical activity. Try 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days each week.

Cheers to you and your wellness—this month and beyond!
