The retreat gives first-year residents an opportunity to step away from clinical work for a full five days, building skills to help them feel more confident and supported throughout their training program. Congratulations to Dr. Monique Burton, who was recently honored with a life-size 3D printed statue displayed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Fan Festival in Dallas, TX! The exhibit featured innovators in STEM whose work fuels the world of sports. As a sports medicine physician and former collegiate gymnast, Dr. Burton helps kids and teens prevent injuries, recover safely, and build lifelong healthy habits through sport. In recognition of PRIDE Month, we are featuring Eric Allen, who joined the Department of Pediatrics team as a Senior Executive Assistant in 2024. Eric has been in administrative support roles for his entire career, spanning health care, research, law firms, the cruise industry, and real estate. He was born in Kansas, but is happy to live here now in the Emerald City. Four leaders from the Department of Pediatrics traveled to Kenya in May to see two collaborative programs in action that are working to improve community health and transform the care and outcomes of critically ill children in Africa. These programs are rooted in longstanding partnerships with Kenya’s medical community and focus on strengthening pediatric care systems and training clinician leaders who can drive lasting improvements in care.
