An anonymous donor is helping expand life-saving heart failure care across our community.

Thanks to a generous gift funding a new vehicle and its ongoing upkeep, Harborview Medical Center's Community Heart Failure Program can add a second field-based care team and serve more patients. The nationally recognized program brings comprehensive heart failure care directly to people facing homelessness, housing instability, mental illness and other social challenges, meeting patients where they are and helping remove barriers to care.

The new vehicle will expand the team's reach across King County and provide a safe, private space for patient visits when needed.

The Interpreter Services Department had a strong showing at the 2026 conference this weekend! We were thrilled to have three speakers sharing their insight and expertise.

Yuliya Speroff ( ) presented a Skills Training course on Sight Translation. This interactive workshop gave participants an opportunity to strengthen, refresh, and refine their sight translation skills.

James Sherrell talked about "AI at the Bedside: Patient Rights, Equity, and the Future of Clinical Care." Participants were invited to consider how AI tools can support care teams while also identifying the safeguards needed to ensure that innovation doesn't outpace patient rights, community trust, or health equity.

Nityia Przewłocki () shared her insights and lessons learned from creating multilingual wound care videos. She shared her process with the intention of inspiring others to use video as a tool for health education and for closing the health equity gap.

This month's Employee of the Month award goes to Carlin DaRonche!

As a Patient Services Specialist, Carlin consistently demonstrates exceptional enthusiasm and a commitment to learning the intricacies of the Prosthetics and Orthotics department. Whether assisting patients with mobility needs, proactively communicating access challenges, or ensuring a smooth check-in experience, he approaches every interaction with kindness, patience, and compassion.

Carlin has become a go-to resource for colleagues, helping others navigate Epic and serving as the department's Epic Superuser.

He has also taken the initiative to attend billing and coding seminars to deepen his understanding of the specialty and actively helps clinicians streamline workflows, allowing them to focus more time on patient care.

His dedication and willingness to step up wherever needed have made a meaningful difference for both patients and the Prosthetics and Orthotics team.

“Maricon was an exceptional nurse. She advocated for me in important ways. She frequently checked on me and listened carefully to my needs. She used her experience to accurately assess the needs that I didn't realize I had during my hospital stay and in preparation for discharge. She even arranged for me to have a supervised walk. I myself have worked in a lot of hospitals and I speak from experience when I say did a great job. I am quite appreciative!”
