🚲 This week we wrapped up our Fall Mini Series Strider & Adaptive Bike Class with Special Olympics South Dakota and we decided to go out with a bang!

🚒 Thank you to the Sioux Falls Fire Department for joining us in the gym, riding bikes with us, and letting us check out your truck! The kids LOVED having you there.

Goals? Oh yeah, we got 'em 😎

🎪 In 2027, we are looking forward to bringing the Family-Friendly Disability Resource Expo back to Sioux Falls even bigger & better than before! We have set the goal of connecting 600 attendees directly to 75 local disability service providers during our FREE and fun, one-day event!

👥 Also in 2027, we are hoping to grow our board from 3 to 5 members to match the growth of our general membership, which is already close to 500! As our organization grows, we want to make sure that growth is sustainable and being led by quality volunteers so that we can better serve our community for years to come!

💚 We are in the second week of our South Dakota Gives challenges, leading up to Giving Tuesday. This week, they asked us to share about two things our organization is hoping to accomplish in 2027 and how those goals will enhance our mission. We'll be posting every week in response to their prompts to enter into a chance to win a cash prize!

📣 We're so incredibly fortunate to be announcing our THIRD new team member this month! Please join us in welcoming Alanna to the Fun & Friends family!

💙 Alanna has taken on the volunteer position of Fun & Friends Jr. Program Coordinator! In that role, she will be planning a monthly event for families who have a school aged child with a disability, rare disease, genetic condition, or who are on the spectrum. She will also be engaging members in (and moderating) our private Facebook group for parents of school aged kids with disabilities, which can be found here: Fun & Friends Jr. Parent Group

⭐ Alanna has already jumped right in, with the November event already planned and published for the Jr. Group, and she's started a wonderful "Question of the Week" series in the group every Monday. It's been fun to watch our parents share more in that group!

"Hello everyone my name is Alanna. I am originally from Plankinton and I moved to Sioux Falls in 2020. I have 2 girls ages 5 and 4. Our oldest daughter was diagnosed with Autism in 2025. I joined Fun and Friends because I wanted to meet other parents and build a positive social circle and it would be good for my daughter to build social skills and make friends along the way!"

🎊 We are so thrilled to be announcing our new partnership with the South Dakota State University's Early Childhood Education Club! They will be taking on the themeing and planning of our monthly Fun for All: Open Gym Program. In that role, they will be getting some amazing hands on experience with kiddos of all abilities and we will benefit from their passion and wealth of new ideas! We are so excited to see all the fun things they will bring to life for our families! Come meet the ECE Club at our 🍂 Fun for All: November Open Gym, coming up on Sunday, November 15th.

🎤 More about the ECE Club: "We are a club that strives to empower teachers of young children and show the importance of early childhood education. Through our club we hope that our members will gain meaningful relationships with professionals and peers, as well as gain understanding about who we are as educators and what we can do for children in the professional field!"

🎉 Join us in welcoming Nicole Zobel to the Fun & Friends team!

💙 Nicole has joined our Events Committee! In that role, she will be helping to plan and host both general events (like Moms Nights and Dads Nights) as well as special events like our upcoming 3rd Annual Wrap Party and the to-be-planned Parent Mixer! Nicole got to dip her toe into the planning pond with our recent All Family Picnic. If you were there, you might have met her at either the bubble station or the tie-dye station!

"Hi! I’m Nicole, and I’m so excited to be joining the Fun & Friends team! My husband and I have two daughters, and our youngest has autism and DDX3X syndrome. Being her mom has opened my eyes to a world I never knew much about before. It has taught me so much about patience, understanding, and just how important it is for everyone to feel included, accepted, and valued.

As a parent, I know firsthand how much it means to find a place where your child can simply be themselves, have fun, make friends, and feel like they belong. Sometimes the little things that others may take for granted mean the absolute world to families like ours.That’s what makes Fun & Friends so special to me. I’m excited to be part of something that brings people together, creates meaningful experiences, and reminds families that they aren’t alone.

📣 Vendor Registration for the 2027 Family-Friendly Disability Resource Expo is now open, and our first round of invitations have been sent out! Local disability providers, please be sure to check your inboxes and spam folders.

🎪 The Expo is coming back even bigger & better and is moving to the Sioux Falls Convention Center. This one-day event brings together individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals to explore the diverse resources and services available locally for individuals with disabilities from birth through adulthood, including: medical, educational, therapeutic, recreational, post high school resources & more.

👤 By participating in the expo, your business or organization will have the opportunity to network with other providers and resources in the community, engage with potential customers who are interested in learning about what you offer, and demonstrate your commitment to supporting the disability community!

❄️ THE WINTER BALL IS RETURNING ❄️

🩵 Please save the date for our 3rd Annual Winter Ball for teens and adults with disabilities, returning on Saturday, January 30th.

🩵 Each year, we've loved watching this event grow! We were pleasantly surprised to outgrow our previous venue so quickly, and we have decided to move the Ball to the Prairie View Event Hall. The new venue will give us more space to continue to grow and to get down and DANCE 🕺🏻💃🏻

💙 Melanie has stepped into the volunteer role of 3•2•1 Fun Program Coordinator! In that role she will be helping to welcome our youngest members into Fun & Friends by planning and hosting monthly events for our birth-5 program, as well as moderating the private parent group for that age-group, which can be found here: 3•2•1 Fun!

🎤 More about Melanie in her own words:

"My name is Melanie Wipf, and I’m mom to Yusuf, who will be turning 4 in November and attends school in the Harrisburg School District. My husband, Mehmet, Yusuf, and I moved to South Dakota in 2024 after I spent 19 years teaching in international schools overseas. We spent our first year back in the U.S. in Aberdeen before moving to Sioux Falls in October 2025. Although I’m relatively new to living in Sioux Falls, I’ve been coming back to the area for many years whenever I was home from overseas.

Yusuf has a rare genetic condition called tuberous sclerosis, and finding Fun and Friends has connected our family with many wonderful people and resources. I’m really looking forward to meeting more families through this group, learning from one another, sharing resources and experiences, and helping create a welcoming space where families can connect and support each other.

I’m excited to be coordinating the group and getting to know all of you! 😊"

💐 Join us in showing Abby Kayser some love, thanking her for a job extremely well done, and wishing her the best of luck as she steps down from her Program Coordinator volunteer position.

💙 In her two years of serving Fun & Friends, she has not only helped our events come to life, but had also spearheaded new event offerings, like our recent Physical Disability Pizza Social.

📋 Abby started out on our 2025 Expo Committee, then took over our birth-5 program, 3•2•1 Fun!, which she has coordinated for over a year. We are forever grateful for all the love, intentionality, and kindness that she poured into her Program Coordinator role, helping to shape the 3•2•1 Fun Pogram into what so many of us know & love!
