The Alaska Sustainable Fisheries Trust (ASFT) invites community and tribal leaders, organizations, fishermen, and community members to take part in a seafood donation distribution in early August. The event will provide locally caught, wild Alaska seafood to Sitka families experiencing food insecurity. With generous support from the Sitka Legacy Foundation, St. Peter's Endowment Fund, and the White Elephant, ASFT will distribute several hundred pounds of seafood sourced from local processors, primarily Seafood Producers Cooperative and Sitka Sound Seafoods.

The Sitka event is part of the Seafood Distribution Network, a program of the Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association (ALFA) and ASFT. Created in March 2020, the network has grown into a statewide effort connecting communities, organizations, businesses, and fishermen working together to address seafood insecurity across Alaska.

Across the state, many Alaskans are struggling to fill their freezers, smokehouses, and pantries with wild Alaska seafood. The Seafood Distribution Network helps meet this need by improving access to healthy, high-quality seafood harvested sustainably by small-scale fishermen. To date, the network has deployed more than $2.6 million to purchase and deliver more than 655,000 donated seafood meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

Sitka residents interested in receiving donated seafood should complete the ASFT 2026 Seafood Distribution Event form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerTR3iYYle-aHktxrvZYSsrah9jcDEZtdPzVyzIfwF8jxnQg/viewform , which is also available on the ALFA website at www.alfafish.org. ASFT will contact individuals with distribution details. Seafood will be available in limited quantities.
