If you're experiencing fainting regularly, it's important to determine the underlying cause. The evaluation of syncope typically includes history and physical examination, orthostatic blood pressure measurements, and an ECG, with additional tests such as blood work, echocardiography, or ambulatory heart monitoring and tilt table test based on the suspected cause.

Experiencing fainting frequently is not normal and could be cause by an underlying heart condition.

What can cause fainting?

The most common cause of fainting is vasovagal syncope, which occurs when a trigger such as fear, pain, stress, or prolonged standing causes a sudden drop-in heart rate and / or blood pressure, briefly reducing blood flow to the brain. Other more serious conditions can lead to fainting. Please consult with your provider when you encounter such a problem.
