Meet Bruce! The Bulldog with a Serious Talent for eating things he isn't supposed to!

Bruce is a 2-year-old Bulldog who came to us after his family noticed he was vomiting, lethargic, and refusing to eat. Unfortunately, this wasn’t Bruce’s first experiencing something like this.

Bruce was previously seen at PEC in January and needed surgery to remove a foreign body. And, because apparently once just wasn’t enough… Bruce needed another surgery last night for ANOTHER foreign body!

But despite his mischievous ways, Bruce has been the best boy throughout his stay. And just look at that face!

According to Mom, Bruce’s photogenic side makes up for his “naughtiness.” We have to agree—he’s pretty hard to stay mad at when he looks this adorable!

We’re happy to share that Bruce’s surgery went well, and even better, he is now back home with his family where he belongs.

Bruce, we’re hoping your next adventure involves ZERO foreign bodies!

A Little Update on Garfield & Alice!

We have some very special updates to share!

As some of you know, Garfield and Alice have officially made their way back home to their families, and their owners were kind enough to send us some updated pictures so we could share their happy faces with all of you.

After everything these two have been through, seeing them safe, loved, and comfortable at home is exactly the kind of update that makes our hearts so full.

From the uncertainty and challenges they faced to seeing them now relaxing with their families… this is what it’s all about.

We are so thankful that their families allowed us to share these beautiful updates with our community. 💕

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor and thank the incredible courage, sacrifice, and compassion shown in the days that followed.

We especially remember the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away — firefighters, police officers, paramedics, search-and-rescue teams, medical professionals, and countless others who gave everything they could to help.

And as a veterinary community, we also want to remember the four-legged heroes who answered the call.

Hundreds of search-and-rescue dogs worked alongside their handlers at Ground Zero, searching through the rubble for survivors and helping locate those who never made it home. These dogs worked tirelessly, often in incredibly difficult and dangerous conditions. Their handlers cared for them, protected them, and relied on the extraordinary bond between human and animal to accomplish an unimaginable task.

CERBY’S PARVO SUCCESS STORY!

We’ve been sharing some of our patients’ success stories lately, and we’ve loved seeing how much our community enjoys celebrating these happy endings with us! So, we couldn’t resist sharing Cerby’s story.

Meet Cerby, a 4-month-old Shepherd mix who came to us on 8/27/26 after testing positive for Parvovirus (Parvo).

His owner initially noticed that Cerby seemed more lethargic than usual and thought maybe he was feeling down because he had hurt his paw. But when Cerby continued to get worse instead of better, his owner didn’t wait it out—they took action and got him the medical attention he needed.

And let us tell you… that decision made all the difference.

Cerby’s owner went above and beyond to make sure this little guy had every opportunity to get better, and after receiving the supportive care he needed, we are SO happy to say…

CERBY IS DOING GREAT!

He’s now eating and drinking on his own, acting like his normal puppy self, and getting back to being the happy, playful little guy he is!

Parvo can be a serious and potentially life-threatening illness, especially in puppies, which is why recognizing changes in your pet and seeking veterinary care early can be so important.

We are incredibly proud of Cerby and so grateful to his owner for advocating for him and getting him the care he needed.

We’re so happy to see that puppy personality coming back!

Today, we celebrate the hardworking individuals who keep our communities moving forward, and we'd especially like to recognize our incredible veterinary team. While many are enjoying a day off, our doctors, technicians, assistants, receptionists, support staff, and administration team are here providing compassionate care for pets and their families when they need it most.

Veterinary medicine doesn't take holidays, and neither does the dedication of our amazing team. ❤️ We are so grateful for the compassion, teamwork, and commitment our staff brings to every shift.

HELPING PETS WHEN THEY NEED IT MOST: THE VETERINARY CARE FOUNDATION

Veterinary care can be expensive, and we understand that unexpected illness, injury, or emergencies can place a significant financial burden on families. Unfortunately, there are times when a pet needs care that their family may not be able to fully afford.

That’s where organizations like the Veterinary Care Foundation (VCF) can make a meaningful difference.

The Veterinary Care Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation created to help veterinary practices provide discounted or no-cost care to pets in need. Their mission is to help reduce situations where financial limitations may prevent a pet from receiving necessary medical treatment.

Through charitable funds, VCF can help support cases such as:

-pets whose families are experiencing a financial hardship
-good Samaritan cases
-police, fire, and service animals
-pets belonging to families experiencing a crisis
-animals injured or displaced by disasters, including fires and other emergencies

One thing we think is especially important for our community to know is that donations can be designated to support a specific veterinary practice.

Funds donated to a participating practice are intended to be used by that practice to help qualifying patients. VCF also has a Good Samaritan Fund that can assist pets outside of a specific practice’s fund. We have been fortunate to see firsthand how charitable assistance can change the outcome for pets facing difficult circumstances.

For example, during the recent wildfire emergency, charitable funding helped provide continued medical care for patients who were injured or displaced by the fires such as Alice and Garfield. These resources allowed our team to continue focusing on what mattered most: helping these animals heal and giving them the best chance at going home.

Because sometimes a little extra help can make all the difference in the world. ❤️

The Veterinary Care Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation that provides a charitable function for veterinarians to collect funds and utilize them in the form of grants to assist animals in need.

From the moment Garfield arrived at our hospital, our team was committed to providing the care and support he needed on his road to recovery. Seeing him heal, grow stronger, and ultimately return home to the people who love him is a reminder of why we are so passionate about what we do.

We are incredibly thankful to have been part of Garfield's journey and grateful for the support of our community throughout his recovery.

🐾 A Diagnostic Win for Dr. Whitney Nelson! 🩺✨

Sometimes the smallest patients leave the biggest impact. ❤️

Meet Spot, a stray kitten who captured her owner's heart but spent more than a year battling mysterious symptoms that no one could quite explain. After numerous veterinary visits and growing concerns about her health, Spot was seen by Dr. Whitney Nelson, Internal Medicine Specialist at Pet Emergency Clinic & Referral Center.

After carefully reviewing Spot's history and recognizing subtle clues, including her distinctive copper-colored eyes, Dr. Nelson suspected a rare condition called a portosystemic shunt, a congenital liver defect that can be difficult to diagnose. An ultrasound confirmed her suspicion, allowing Spot to be referred to Washington State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital for life-saving surgery.

Today, Spot is thriving, gaining weight, growing stronger, and enjoying life thanks to early recognition, advanced diagnostics, and a collaborative veterinary team.

👏 We'd like to congratulate Dr. Nelson for her expertise, dedication, and commitment to finding answers for patients when others may have run out of options. Stories like Spot's remind us why thorough diagnostics and specialty medicine can make all the difference.
