Last week, I had one of those moments every pet parent dreads.
I thought my cat might have ingested ant poison, and my whole body went straight into that cold, shaky panic.

You know the one, the “oh no, what’s going to happen” spiral, the racing thoughts,
the tight chest, the way your stomach drops and suddenly you’re Googling symptoms with trembling hands.

Even after I realized he was okay, my nervous system stayed stuck in that alert mode.
My shoulders were up by my ears.
My sleep was rough.
My mind kept replaying what‑ifs.

And today, it hit me:
Pet owners carry a very specific kind of tension that no one really talks about.

We lift, bend, clean, chase, soothe, medicate, worry, watch, and love these little creatures with our whole hearts.
And when something scares us, even for a moment, our bodies hold onto it.

Your body was busy last night ~ even if you weren’t.

While you slept, your muscles worked quietly in the background:
👉Repairing tiny micro‑tensions - from everything you did yesterday
👉Rebalancing your nervous system - after a week of stress
👉Releasing waste products - through your lymphatic system
👉Resetting posture patterns - you’ve been stuck in

Sometimes it’s the small, steady things that help your body feel safe again.

✨ Unclenching your jaw
Most people don’t realize they’re holding tension there all day.
A soft jaw tells your nervous system, “We’re okay.” Small movements of your jaw after you've unclenched will help with this.

✨ Dropping your shoulders
That tiny lift you do without noticing?
It’s your body bracing.
Letting them fall back down is a reset. Roll them back and forth while moving your head side to side.

✨ Taking 3 slow breaths
Not deep breaths ~ slow ones.
Slow breathing signals your body to shift out of stress mode.

✨ Touch that grounds you
A warm shower, a hand on your chest, or a massage session that helps your muscles release what they’ve been holding.

✨ Moving your body gently

🤎 Your Body Feels What You Don’t Say Out Loud

One of the most powerful things I’ve learned as an LMT is this:

Your body often speaks before you do.

It shows up as a tight jaw when you’re holding back emotions.
As shoulders creeping upward when you’re bracing for the next thing.
As a heavy chest when you’ve been carrying too much for too long.
As hips that won’t loosen because you haven’t had a moment to breathe.

These patterns aren’t weakness.
They’re communication.

Your body remembers the stress you pushed through.
It remembers the conversations you swallowed.
It remembers the nights you stayed strong when you were exhausted.

Massage helps reconnect the dots:
softening the places that have been holding,
quieting the nervous system,
and giving your body permission to release what it’s been carrying alone.
