The Department of Justice has charged 324 defendants, including 96 medical professionals, in a sweeping crackdown on healthcare fraud schemes.

The operation spanned 50 federal districts and involved 12 state attorney general offices.

These busts target fraudulent billing, unnecessary treatments, kickbacks, and other scams that have allegedly cost taxpayers and the system over $14.6 billion.

This is one of the largest healthcare fraud enforcement actions in recent memory.
