Today is National Cancer Survivors Day. Although the observance falls on a Sunday this year, OHA Clinic - Advanced Cancer Care celebrated our survivors on Friday. At our Springfield, Lebanon, and Monett locations, we honored current and former patients, their families, and caregivers with a special bell-ringing ceremony at noon in recognition of their strength, resilience, and cancer journeys.

We are also thankful to Kim with Lilly for providing a canvas at each of our locations, allowing patients to contribute their own artistic touch. These collaborative pieces will be displayed as a lasting tribute to National Cancer Survivors Day and the strength of those we serve.

Today is Cancer Survivors Day 💙

Chances are, you know someone who has survived cancer. In the United States alone, one out of every three people is expected to receive a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime. Currently, about 18.6 million Americans are living as cancer survivors and that number is expected to climb to 22.4 million over the next decade.

Cancer Survivors: we are inspired by your resilience and honored to be a part of your journey. Today, we celebrate survivorship, the support of our family, friends, and caregivers, and the hope of thriving after cancer.

Our own Dr. Brooke Gillett recently joined KY3 to discuss male breast cancer, helping raise awareness about a disease that, while less common in men, remains an important health concern.

Breast cancer is far less common in men, but it does happen. Chris Elder, an Ozarks breast cancer survivor, said he first noticed what he thought was a cyst in his right breast. His wife urged him to get it checked.

❤️ Patient Story ❤️

Patient: Leland Martin
AON Partner Practice: Oncology Hematology Associates

Leland Martin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February 2024. Under the care of AON partner practice, OHA Clinic - Advanced Cancer Care in Springfield, Missouri, Leland underwent three months of chemotherapy followed by Whipple surgery, then an additional five months of chemotherapy.

Everyone deals with cancer in their own way, but when you’re a retired country music singer, writing a song about the experience is as natural as breathing.

Leland Martin’s song, “Fight to Survive,” was inspired by his sisters, who showed their support during chemotherapy by having T-shirts made with his picture and featuring the slogan. The song was released to streaming platforms last May, and a video was released on YouTube in September.
