Our own Dr. Brooke Gillett recently joined KY3 to discuss male breast cancer, helping raise awareness about a disease that, while less common in men, remains an important health concern.

Breast cancer is far less common in men, but it does happen. Chris Elder, an Ozarks breast cancer survivor, said he first noticed what he thought was a cyst in his right breast. His wife urged him to get it checked.

❤️ Patient Story ❤️

Patient: Leland Martin
AON Partner Practice: Oncology Hematology Associates

Leland Martin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February 2024. Under the care of AON partner practice, OHA Clinic - Advanced Cancer Care in Springfield, Missouri, Leland underwent three months of chemotherapy followed by Whipple surgery, then an additional five months of chemotherapy.

Everyone deals with cancer in their own way, but when you’re a retired country music singer, writing a song about the experience is as natural as breathing.

Leland Martin’s song, “Fight to Survive,” was inspired by his sisters, who showed their support during chemotherapy by having T-shirts made with his picture and featuring the slogan. The song was released to streaming platforms last May, and a video was released on YouTube in September.

June is Men's Health Month.

Men’s Health Month aims to raise awareness about preventable health issues and encourages men and boys to adopt healthier lifestyles. It highlights the critical need for routine medical checkups, early disease detection, and mental health support to improve overall wellbeing.

Men face specific physical and mental health challenges that often go ignored due to a reluctance to seek medical care. Understanding and proactively managing these areas can significantly improve longevity and quality of life. 💙
