Pancreatic cancer is now the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. For patients with metastatic disease, options have been especially limited.

Today, the FDA approved a first-in-class drug that has been shown to prolong life for patients with metastatic disease. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and WashU Medicine was among the first centers in the country to offer the therapy to patients and served as a clinical trial site for the Phase 3 study.

Some nurses you never forget. πŸ’›

Congratulations to Jessica Eschenbacher at the Werths Building at Siteman Cancer Center on receiving the DAISY Award for extraordinary compassionate care. During one of the most difficult times in a patient's life, fighting an aggressive lymphoma alone during COVID, Jessica showed up with a smile, compassion and the kind of care that made the hardest days easier to bear.

As the patient who nominated her shared: "I still cry as I write this because I am still so filled with emotion and gratitude for one person's true compassion and love."

Jessica, thank you for being the kind of nurse every patient deserves.
