Pope Leo is recovering after surgery for lung cancer, and people have questions. WashU Medicine thoracic surgeon Whitney S. Brandt, MD, at Siteman Cancer Center joined Fox2Now to answer general questions about the surgery and recovery process.

Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer in the U.S., but when it's caught early, the five-year survival rate is 67%. If you’re eligible for lung cancer screening, talk to your doctor.

What a day! Siteman Cancer Center was proud to be part of the 20th annual Families Run for Ovarian Cancer (FamiliesROC) 5K and 1-Mile Run/Walk hosted by St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness at Tower Grove Park this past weekend — the area’s largest event devoted to raising ovarian cancer awareness.

At 42, Meghan was diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer. The tumor had already spread to her liver. Her doctors gently suggested she “get her affairs in order,” her husband, Mark, recalled. But Meghan and Mark sought a second opinion at Siteman Cancer Center.

WashU Medicine surgeon William C. Chapman, MD, proposed something different: a liver transplant. The WashU Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital Transplant Center is one of the few in the world performing this procedure for patients with late-stage colorectal cancer.

Today we recognize Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

Living with metastatic breast cancer opens up a set of questions that clinical care alone cannot answer. That’s why Siteman Cancer Center created the Metastatic Breast Cancer Empowerment Initiative.

The initiative brings together patients, caregivers and WashU Medicine experts through webinars, a virtual support group and resources designed to meet the specific needs of people living with MBC. Because MBC is a community that understands.

There are steps you can take today to boost your brain health and help lower the risk of developing dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. And many of the same behaviors also help lower the risk of other serious conditions, from stroke and heart disease to diabetes and cancer. The biggest benefits come when you start early and keep them up throughout life.
