💛🍋 A Summer Love Nod to Citrus! 🍊💛
One of the simplest ways to support your health during the hottest months of the year is possibly sitting right in your fruit bowl.
Lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruit, and other citrus fruits are packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and flavorful plant compounds that can help support overall wellness. They're refreshing, easy to use, and a wonderful way to make healthy habits more enjoyable!
Here are a few simple ways to bring more citrus into your summer:
☀️ Add fresh lemon or lime slices to your water. If plain water feels boring, citrus can make staying hydrated much easier. Slice them up and store unused portions in your fridge, they're even better when they're already cold and ready to go.
☀️ Freeze lemon, lime, or orange slices into ice cubes for a beautiful addition to iced tea or sparkling water.
☀️ Brighten summer salads with a squeeze of fresh citrus instead of heavy dressings.
☀️ Add lemon zest or orange zest to baked goods, yogurt, oatmeal, or herbal tea blends for extra flavor and beneficial plant compounds.
☀️ Make a simple citrus fruit salad with oranges, grapefruit, berries, and fresh mint.
☀️ Keep a bowl of fresh oranges where you'll see them. Sometimes the healthiest snacks are simply the easiest ones to reach.
One of my favorite ways to enjoy citrus is in herbal tea. Lemon has a way of making everything taste a little brighter and more refreshing, especially during the hottest days of summer.
We have a new blend at the Apothecary: Lemon Tonic, made with lemon verbena, green rooibos, lemon balm, lemongrass, rosehips, and real lemon, it's crisp, uplifting, caffeine free, and absolutely wonderful served over ice. It's become one of my favorite afternoon teas when I need something refreshing without reaching for a sugary drink.
Nature often provides exactly what the season asks of us. In the heat of summer, citrus brings brightness, flavor, hydration, and a little sunshine in every slice. 🍋✨
Tell me your favorite way to enjoy citrus. Are you a lemonade person, an iced tea person? Any tried and true citrus recipes you'd like to share?
