We are so excited to announce our Client of the Month for August! Joseph came to all of his sessions this month, made progress, and his family used carryover strategies to do with him at home! Joseph mastered his /z/ sound and is working very hard on his /s/ and /l/ currently. He has a great attitude and always works very hard! We are very proud of him! Keep up the hard work buddy! And thank you to New York Boulders for giving Joseph a free ticket to go to a Boulders baseball game this season! We are also excited to give him a free 30 minute session in the Sensory Room at Bridges at the Palisades Mall! BRIDGES. Congratulations! 🥳

🎨☀️ Summer Speech Treat: CHALK! ☀️🎨

This week, we’re letting our imaginations run wild with CHALK! 🌈✨

Who says speech therapy has to happen at a table? Chalk is a fun, creative way to get kids moving, talking, imagining, and communicating!

While we create our colorful summer masterpieces, we can target:

🗣️ Vocabulary – colors, shapes, actions, objects, and summer words
💬 Language expansion – describing what we draw and adding details
👂 Following directions – “Draw a big circle next to the sun!”
📍 Spatial concepts – above, below, beside, inside, between, and more
❓ WH-questions – Who? What? Where? Why?
📖 Storytelling – turning our drawings into imaginative stories and adventures
🎨 Creative expression – encouraging children to share their ideas and let their personalities shine!

The best part? There’s no wrong way to create! 🌈

We love giving our clients the opportunity to use their imagination while working on meaningful speech and language skills. Because at Now You’re Talking, play has a purpose! 💙🗣️

☀️🌴 **Summer Theme Treats at Now You’re Talking: Sticker Scenes!** 🌴☀️

This week, our Summer Theme Treat was all about **creating, imagining, and making our own summer sticker scenes!** 🏖️🌈🐠

But this activity was so much more than just stickers! 😉 Our speech therapists used this fun, hands-on activity to target important **language skills and vocabulary** while allowing our clients' imaginations to come to life!

🗣️ **Building Vocabulary:** We practiced naming and describing summer-themed objects, people, places, and actions while learning new words.

👂 **Following Directions:** These simple directions help children practice understanding concepts such as **above/below, next to, in/on, behind/in front, big/little, and more.**

💬 **Describing & Expanding Language:** We encouraged children to tell us about their scenes, describe what was happening, and use longer, more detailed sentences.

🧠 **Imagination & Storytelling:** Once the scenes were complete, our clients got to create their own summer adventures! This gave them opportunities to practice **pretend play, sequencing, answering WH-questions, and storytelling.**

✨ And the best part? **They had SO much fun!**

We love creating activities that allow children to play, explore, use their imagination, and build meaningful communication skills all at the same time. 💙

We are SO excited to celebrate and congratulate Corinne and Kylee on this incredible accomplishment! 🥳👏

They have officially earned their CCC’s (Certificate of Clinical Competence) and received their New York State SLP licenses — making them officially Speech-Language Pathologists! 🎓🗣️✨

We are so proud of all the hard work, dedication, clinical hours, and passion they have poured into reaching this milestone. ❤️

✨ Summer Theme Treats at Now You're Talking: Bubbles! 🫧

Last week, our summer theme treat was one of every child's favorites... BUBBLES! 💜

While bubbles are tons of fun, they're also an amazing therapy tool! As speech-language pathologists, we use bubbles to help children develop important oral motor skills needed for speech and everyday activities.

Blowing bubbles helps children practice:

💨 Breath control – Learning to take a deep breath and slowly control the airflow is an important foundation for speech production. Children need coordinated breathing to speak in phrases and sentences, use an appropriate volume, and produce many speech sounds.

👄 Lip rounding – To blow bubbles successfully, children must round their lips into an "O" shape and direct the air forward. Many children with speech and oral motor challenges retract their lips or bite their lower lip instead, causing the air to escape and making it difficult to blow bubbles, whistles, or even birthday candles.

🧠 Motor planning and coordination – Blowing bubbles requires the brain, lips, cheeks, jaw, and breathing muscles to work together. This coordination supports overall speech development and oral motor awareness.

One of the best parts of therapy is watching a child's face light up when they finally blow their very first bubble after practicing the correct lip position and breath support. That moment isn't just exciting—it's a sign that they're developing skills that will carry over into speech and everyday life.
