Tykes & Teens

Tykes & Teens Compassionate & exceptional behavioral healthcare through prevention & treatment for kids ages 0-17. Proudly serving children and families in Martin, St.

Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties in Florida. Tykes & Teens has been a leading provider of the highest quality evidence-based mental health services and programs for children and adolescents for more than 24 years. The agency began offering services in 1996 in Martin County with the goal of strengthening local families by ensuring that all children have access to high-quality counseling

and mental health services, regardless of financial status. Since then, we have expanded services to St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties. Our passion and commitment is to empowering children and adolescents by developing innovative and unduplicated programs, and collaborating with community partners. We are accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families, and meets or exceeds all federal, state, county, and local laws and regulations. We accept most insurance, private payments, and we are a Medicaid-approved provider. We have successfully administered a sliding fee scale for those in need when necessary for more than 20 years. Call us at (772) 220-3439 and one of our intake specialists will review insurance coverage and determine eligibility for the sliding scale. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, we also provide $750,000 in unreimbursed services to the communities we serve each year. At Tykes & Teens, we believe that we cannot wait for another tragedy to happen – locally or nationally – to make affordable, accessible and high-quality mental health awareness and services a priority. We believe mental health matters every day. Our services build a healthier and more resilient community by helping children improve self-esteem; recover from sexual abuse, domestic violence and substance abuse; improve anxiety and depression symptoms; and develop the valuable skills they need to live a healthy and independent life. We also advocate for increased awareness of mental health to remove the stigma and shame often associated with seeking mental health treatment. Screens are not the enemy, but they can eat up the time that can be used as family time.

This month, try trading a little of that time for time outside together.

Start small by picking one screen habit to swap out. Maybe it is the after-dinner scroll, or the weekend morning show. Replace it with something outside instead.

A walk around the block works well, as does riding bikes together, a quick trip to the beach, or spending ten minutes in the backyard with the phones left inside. None of it needs to be elaborate to make a difference.

What matters most is that your child notices you choosing them over the notification. That is where the real connection happens.

Today is National Nonprofit Day.

In 2025, Americans gave an extraordinary $617.2 billion to nonprofit organizations, the highest amount ever recorded.

But behind that enormous number are millions of individual acts of generosity. A gift. A volunteer hour. A helping hand. A belief that we can make our communities better, together.

For 30 years, Tykes & Teens has been fortunate to be part of that story.

Today, we celebrate our fellow nonprofits, and every person who makes this work possible.

Thank you for believing in the power of doing good. 🧡

What motivates you to give back to children?

Maybe it is a memory of an adult who showed up for you.

Maybe it is watching your own kids grow.

Or it is simply believing every child deserves a real shot at a strong start.

Tell us in the comments! We’d love to hear why you give back 🤍

August is National Breastfeeding Month, and it is worth talking about the connection between breastfeeding and maternal mental health.

Research shows breastfeeding can support a mother's sense of self-efficacy, essentially, her confidence in her own ability to care for her baby. Higher self-efficacy is linked to lower rates of postpartum depression, and mothers who breastfeed often report feeling more capable and perceive their babies as calmer during feeding.

None of this means breastfeeding is the only path to a confident, healthy postpartum experience. Every family's feeding journey looks different, and that is okay. But it is a reminder of just how connected physical and mental health are in those early months, and why support for new moms matters just as much as support for their babies.
