Communication is more than just talking 💬

Many parents worry when their child is not using words yet, but communication starts long before speech does. Pointing, eye contact, gestures, bringing you toys, facial expressions, and sounds are all meaningful ways children connect and communicate.

Instead of only looking for red flags, look for the ways your child is already trying to interact with the world around them. These early communication skills are important building blocks for language development.

A child with limited spoken words may still have strong language skills 💬

Speech and language are not the same thing. Speech is the motor ability to produce sounds and words, while language is understanding, connecting, processing, and communicating.

Some children understand far more than they are currently able to verbally express. They may follow directions, engage socially, use gestures, and communicate wants and needs in meaningful ways even when spoken language is limited.

At TLSB, we look at the whole child, not just word count. Every child deserves support, connection, and a voice even before words fully emerge 💗

In this series, our families share their real experiences and what speech therapy has meant for their children.

In our first episode, Angelique shares her journey transitioning from large agencies to our boutique style setting, where care feels personal and every child is truly seen. She speaks about the importance of individualized support, parent education after each session, and most importantly, a child who walks out smiling and excited to come back.
