Today is National Concussion Awareness Day. It's meaningful after spending the last two days at a conference focused on a serious invisible wound we often cannot see.
Our team spoke, we learned, we made new friends and we heard some very serious conversations about brain health.
Invisible wounds affect our veterans, athletes, teenagers and everyday people walking right past us. Many are suffering inside, unsure why, while the rest of us see nothing.
One of the hardest reminders was how head trauma can be connected to deep mental health struggles and su***de.
We see it in veterans. We see it in athletes. We see it in young people.
Too often, no one realizes the brain may be part of the story until the suffering has become overwhelming.
Grateful for Greg Heckroth, Dr. Fabian Consbruck, Gabriela Vieira and our GBI friend, retired Marine Colonel Eli Smith, who joined us.
There is real progress being made, but there is still a long way to go to ensure NOT ONE MORE ever has to suffer alone without help.
Thank you USF for hosting us and the The Mac Parkman Foundation Foundation for bringing everyone together again this year.
A New Beginning of Hope is around the corner when we continue to bring together great minds ❤️
