Not all herbal preparations are made the same 🌿
So… should you make a cold infusion, hot infusion, or decoction?
It depends on the herb—and what you’re trying to extract.
🧊 Cold infusion: longer steep, gentle extraction; often useful for delicate, mucilaginous herbs
🔥 Hot infusion: shorter steep with heat; great for many leaves and flowers
🍵 Decoction: simmering tougher plant material; commonly used for roots, barks, and seeds
And no, cold infusion doesn’t automatically mean “weaker.” An overnight cold infusion can extract plenty—it’s simply a different extraction method.
Knowing how to prepare an herb is part of knowing the herb. 🌱
