Shimeka Cherie Taylor

Her Life, Her Love, Her Legacy

On October 1, 1982, a beautiful life began with the birth of Shimeka Cherie Taylor in Temple, Texas. On October 1, 2026, the very day she entered this world 44 years earlier, Shimeka’s earthly journey came to an end.

Although her time here was far too short, the love she shared, the memories she created, and the lives she touched will forever remain.

Born and raised in Temple, Texas, Shimeka was a genuine soul who will be remembered for simply being herself. She found joy in life’s simple moments and enjoyed reading the Bible. Her faith was a source of comfort, strength, and peace.

Shimeka was more than a daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a kind heart, a beautiful spirit, and a presence that could light up any room. She was genuine, loving, and always there for the people she cared about. Her laughter, smile, and the way she loved her family will be cherished forever.

While we may never fully understand why her journey ended so soon, we find comfort in the memories that death cannot take away. The sound of her voice, the moments of her laughter, the conversations, and the love shared will remain forever etched in our hearts.

Lillie Bee Voice

Willie B. Brown and Mavis Pauline Richmond. Her birthplace and childhood home was Rogers, Texas.

Lillie attended Dunbar High School.

In 1981, Lillie was baptized into Christ. She remained a faithful member of Avenue G Church of Christ in Temple,

Texas, until her passing. Her faith was an important part of her life and was reflected in the way she loved, cared for,

and served others.

On March 28, 1981, Lillie married her beloved husband, Roy Lee Voice Sr. Together, they shared 44 years of

marriage, building a life filled with family, faith, love, and treasured memories.

Lillie was a hardworking woman who dedicated many years of her life to serving others. She worked as a cook at the

Veterans Affairs Hospital and retired after 25 years of service. She also worked as a cook for Belton Independent

School District and Temple Independent School District.

Her caring spirit extended beyond the kitchen. Lillie also worked as a caregiver with AccentCare Home Health,

Girling Home Health, and Heights Home Health, caring for others with the same compassion she showed to those

she loved.

Anyone who knew Lillie knew that she loved to cook. Feeding people was one of the ways she showed her love. She

cooked for her family, friends, church members, and anyone who was hungry. If you were hungry and Lillie had

food, you were going to eat.

She was especially known for her pound cakes, coconut cake, German chocolate cake, and, Lord, let us not forget her

cornbread dressing. Lillie didn't simply prepare food - she cooked with love. Every cake, every pan of dressing, and

every meal she placed on the table was another way of taking care of the people around her.

Helen Marie Williams

Helen Marie Williams was born on February 14, 1941, in Bartlett, Texas, to Azalia and Flenoid Rector. Born on Valentine’s Day, Helen entered this world on a day devoted to love—a fitting beginning for a woman whose life would ultimately be defined by the love she gave so freely to her family, her community, and generations of children.

Helen began her education at Booker T. Washington School. Her commitment to learning continued into adulthood, and she went on to attend Austin Community College, where she earned an Associate Degree and certification in Early Childhood Development.

Helen also had a foundation firmly rooted in faith. She joined Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized by the esteemed Reverend Ira Lewis. Her church and faith became part of the foundation upon which she built her life, raised her family, and served others.

Helen’s professional journey was a testament to her determination, work ethic, and belief in the importance of children receiving a strong start in life.

She began her career at Bartlett Head Start as the cook. But Helen did not stop there. Through hard work, continued education, perseverance, and a genuine love for children, she worked her way through the program and ultimately became Director of Bartlett Head Start. Her 40-year journey from the kitchen to the director’s office spoke volumes about the woman she was. Whether she was preparing a meal, comforting a child, supporting a family, guiding a teacher, or leading the entire program, she approached her work with purpose.

While Helen gave so much of herself to the children of her community, the center of her world was always her family. Helen married the love of her life, Johnnie James Williams, and together they built a life rooted in love and commitment. In September 2026, Helen and Johnnie would have celebrated 67 years of marriage—nearly seven decades of walking through life side by side. Together, they raised seven children: Elaine, Ricky, Wayne, Leslie AKA Pompey, Craig, James, and Steve.

Helen knew both the tremendous joy of motherhood and the unimaginable sorrow of losing a child. Her beloved son, Steven Russell Williams, preceded her in death. Though his earthly life ended before hers, Steven stayed forever a part of his mother’s heart and an inseparable part of the Williams family story. And after nearly 67 years of marriage, there was one word Helen may have said more lovingly and more often than any other: “Johnnie.” Whether she needed something, wanted something, had something to say, or simply wanted his attention, everyone knew the familiar sound of Helen calling, “Johnnie!” It was more than a name. After soon to be 67 years together, it was the soundtrack of a marriage and a love that had endured a lifetime.

Helen believed in enjoying life, and one thing was certain: she refused to be left behind.

She loved traveling with her family, and whenever plans were being made, Helen made her intentions perfectly clear: “I’m going wherever y’all going.” And she meant it.

If the family was going somewhere, Helen was ready to go too. It did not matter whether the destination was near or far; she wanted to be with her people. Those family trips became treasured memories—not simply because of where they went, but because Helen was there.

At home, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of spending time with family and friends that were like family. She loved sitting around a table playing cards and dominoes, where the competition, conversation, laughter, and fellowship were just as important as who won. She was the consummate trash talker and unafraid to put her skills up against any challenger!

Helen was also a devoted sports fan. She proudly cheered for the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Alabama, Roll Tide!

As much as Helen loved being a mother, being a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great grandmother brought another special kind of joy into her life. Helen was not the kind of grandmother who waited for the grandchildren to call her. She called them. Every single day even if they were at work! Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren could count on hearing from her. Those daily phone calls were Helen’s way of staying connected, checking on everyone, making sure they were all right, and reminding them—sometimes without ever having to say the words—that they were loved.

And if Helen loved you, there was a good chance she had a nickname for you. Some of her favorite nicknames are Annie Louise (Chanae), Sir Barnable (Jesse), Stuff (Brittany), Busteroo (Steven), Little Dirly (Taylor) Williams (Jackie) Butta (Craig) Daddy (Chase) Hammer (Chad) Twenty (Isaiah) Bethel B***y (Cara Beth), Hebo (David) Rosie Mae (Rose) Suga Britches (Johnnie Mae) JT Blackbird (Baron), N-e-l-o-p-e (Penny) HaChaDa (Haven) James my Boss (James) Chocolate Drop (Kassidy)

These names somehow fit, names that made everyone laugh, and names that had a way of sticking with you for life. Long after the story behind a nickname may have been forgotten, the name remained because Grandma Helen gave it to you and it is now part of the priceless inheritance she leaves behind.

As a strong black woman, Helen understood the value of a dollar. She knew what it meant to work for what you had, to appreciate what you earned, and not to waste what had been entrusted to you. And Helen didn’t just appreciate dollars—she loved collecting them! Those who knew her understood that Helen and her dollars had a special relationship. It was another one of those wonderfully distinctive things that made Helen, Helen.

On August 29, 2026, Helen Marie Williams completed her earthly journey at the age of 85.

She is preceded in death by her mother Azalia Rector, her father Flenoid Rector, her brother Ester Lee Rector, her son Steven R. Williams, and her grandson Dedrick S. Williams.

She leaves to mourn her loving husband of almost 67 years, Johnnie James Williams, her sister Johnnie Mae Watson of Denver, CO, her children Jesse and Lois Davis of Lake Jackson, TX, Ricky and Nelda Rector of Round Rock, TX, Johnny Wayne Williams of Dallas, TX, Leslie and Jackie Williams of Dallas, TX, Craig and Delia Williams of Granger, TX, James and Christine Williams of Round Rock, TX, special cousin sister Rose Mary Thomas of Georgetown and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

She had an extraordinary and special relationship with her grandchildren Chanae (Daniel), Chad (Nia), Chasity, Michael (Michelle), Tigre’, Steven, Jonathan, Sherod (Mary), Erika (Cornelius), Jarvis, Brittany (Chelsi), Craig, Katrina, Kenny, Brandon, Isaiah, Cara Beth, Taylor, Frank (Crystal), Jonathan (Joanna), Marissa (David), and Keanna. Her passing leaves an absence that cannot be filled, but her life leaves a legacy that cannot be erased.

Helen Marie Williams was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great grandmother, friend, educator, mentor, church member, community servant, sports fan, and the family matriarch.

She worked. She learned. She served. She laughed. She played her cards and dominoes. She collected her dollars. She called her babies. She gave everybody a nickname. She loved her students. She loved her family. And for nearly 67 years, she loved her Johnnie.

That is a life worth celebrating. That is a story worth telling. And that is a legacy worth carrying forward. Rest well, Helen Marie Williams.Your life was a blessing.

Your memory is a treasure. You are loved beyond word. And you will be missed beyond measure
